I honestly cried about oppy today it's been three years, and she was a machine on another planet, and it didn't have last words it was just a series of data a scientist at nasa translated in a way that the average person would understand. Why the hell did that make me cry. I thought about it and I understand.

Everything can die. A rock can sit on the shore for thousands of years and eventually it'll be worn down, into sand. It's parts are still there but it's different now and it'll never be that rock again that's dying. So if everything can die that means that everything is at least a little bit alive, and it's sad when it goes. More than that if it's something of ours, (humanity) then it's part of us too, and that makes it even sadder when it goes.

That's why we can cry over characters that never existed dying in a book, or kingdoms that never existed falling, or a piece of machinery on a different world that lived longer than it should have even though it didn't know it was alive.
