chapter 1/5: two cut lines
Buck had done it anyway. Opened his mouth and said, "Chris is gone". Watched Eddie’s face... shatter. It was like the water at the pier, drawing out and out, a sign of what was coming, and there was nothing anybody could do to stop it. And now- God, the house is so quiet. Chris has such a loud laugh, whooping, the kind you can hear from another room. Buck knows it’s not- Chris is just in El Paso with his loving family members, it’s fine, Chris is fine. Relatively speaking. Except Chris is still gone.
