It’s All About been stupid.
Once I heard that kids from the past decades were indestructible, and they were!. I’m sure many of you have some type of scars on the chin, forehead or some broken bone but the best thing is that it probably comes with an awesome story about been stupid such as jumping out of a tree or playing some sport without protection. If we wanted to jump from a roof top we did it and then see the result!, there was no planning, from rolling down a high hill without a helmet to doing jackass and busting our asses out.
I am not trying to criticize parents, probably they don’t want to suffer as our parents did but as in back to the future II I would love to go back in time to the moment were things change and we “grew up”.
As this is my first article I will tell you a story about myself, I started play drums when I was twelve, heavily influenced by my brother who introduce me to Nirvana and the smashing pumpkins, I grew up in a small town in Colombia (Barranquilla), with a long tradition of folkloric music and carnivals, not the best place to play rock drums, so to learn how to play I hit my couch with drumsticks and imagine the sound until my parents saw I was serious and bought me my first drumkit. At school I manage to find a guitar player and to sneak out of class we got to play on the school coliseum, just guitar and drums (no bass), we sang and played 3 songs (los de adentro - una canción, Blink 182 - All the small things, Latin dreams - Quiero una chica), and It was awesome!, By the way a few people knew the songs but they enjoy it. After that I played several school shows and got into the “scene”, to not make this too long, I played on emo, hardcore, pop, tropical and even gospel bands, and since I couldn’t find a guitar/bass player and singer, record or edit songs I learned how to do that as well.
I am witting this on the coronavirus pandemia, so I guess this decade started the hard way!, social distancing means no clubs/no reggaeton, influencers well.. let’s say they will have to changes their ways and put more quality content, no perfect travel live and probably acquiring more responsibility to keep up (suddenly owning a house and having a regular job doesn’t sound to bad). I believe it is a mix between been “regular” and been some kind of irreverent, I guess I will be stupid my whole live, I truly hope this decade makes us more stupid and let us enjoy life more.
