I’ve got a recommendation! It’s called “Familiars”, by TricksterGhost7, and it’s a complete fic. It’s a Daemon AU, inspired by the “His Dark Materials” series (but you don’t need to know the original novels to enjoy this story, as the plot mostly follows canon events). It has a strong Hermione&Pansy friendship (as well as Harry/Pansy), a morally grey but deeply devoted Draco, supportive Narcissa, and a touch of pureblood culture.

The premise is that each wizard/witch has a familiar, which is an animal that appears when the wizard/witch first performs magic. The familiar is a representation of the soul. The familiar can change forms to different animals during childhood, but Hermione’s familiar (Crookshanks) often takes the form of a large jaguar, representing how powerful Hermione is. The slytherins are intrigued by the muggleborn witch with such an unusual familiar, and Pansy in particular almost immediately forms a close friendship with Hermione.

Familiars - TricksterGhost7 - not rated, 30 chapters, Words: 116,805 - Hermione was five when her magic manifests for the very first time and Crookshanks is born. Her familiar, born of her magic and a piece of her soul, meant to be a companion for the rest of her days. Canon rewrite starting with year one. Witches and wizards have familiars that manifest when they use magic for the first time. They are physical embodiments of a witch or wizard's soul. They take the form of animals and are capable of shifting their shape until their human settles into the beginnings of maturity.

Are there any combinations of character traits that you particularly enjoy writing, both in general and in regards to the Crown’s relationships with the LIs?

I don't think I prefer any specific combo, they each have different appeals for me! I think I like it the most when two traits interact with each other in a single scene, because it draws out nuances in the Crown’s characterization.

For example, during CH7 when the Crown is greeted by their guests at the banquet, this is what an adventurous/blunt Crown says:

“We are your humble servants, Your Imperial Majesty,” the nobles greet you, which you know in some cases—such as Steward Welat, who is also in attendance though you haven’t spotted him yet—to be a lie. Silence falls after the greeting; guests wait for your permission to commence the festivities in earnest. “I’m sure you are,” you can’t help but say to the room. It’s part mockery, part warning as you find yourself rather unimpressed with it all. A few nobles glance up at you from their bow, looking taken aback or unsure, but you ignore it. They’ll know not to test your patience soon enough. You fall back on what $rname and $aname taught you to say, though you deliver it with your own adjustments. “I’m glad to see you’ve all been enjoying the festivities so far. Today will be a day for celebration, but tomorrow, the real work begins.” You give a sharp smile. “Revel in it while you can.” The discomfort in the room is palpable, one only partially broken as the musicians tentatively resume their songs.

Versus what an adventurous/charming Crown says:

“I would never accuse any of you of being humble,” you say to the room, your tone one of playful commiseration, and it gets you several chuckles and laughs. You couldn’t be any more different from them if you tried. They were raised in the lap of luxury, ruling the country while you were barely scraping by, taking it day by day—you don’t relate to them, you don’t consider them your peers. But they don’t need to know that. You’ve always been good at wearing disguises. “I’m glad to see you’ve all been entertained by the festivities so far,” you continue when the laughter dies down soon after, looking around the many faces present with a charming smile as you recall the words $rname and $aname taught you. “Today is a day of celebration; revel in it! Tomorrow, we will all begin the work of restoring peace to the Empire. Until then, enjoy drinking my wine!” At your gesture, the music and merriment resumes once more, the guests looking very pleased by your reception.

Two very different vibes, but both really fun to write!

Not a request - I’m just curious how you choose colors for a name? Do you have a process? Thank you!

Thanks for taking interest in this blog! Unless I get a color association with the name right away (which happens sometimes), I typically look up the name meaning and then design the palette based on that. There’s usually a bit of interpretation in this step, though, so it’s not always super straightforward, but it tends to form a good base for me to work off of.

For the color association thing, my brain either just straight up provides me with colors or it could be kind of like a mood or concept or image, which I then apply my knowledge of color theory to or just try my best to match.

Sometimes, though, I go into the palette making process with half an idea and come out the other side with something different, but that’s something I really like about making color palettes. Unless I have a really strong idea, it’s more of a process of discovery than that of strict creation. I can mess around with the colors until I find what I’m looking for.

For the + and - for passive and active classes, the signs might be the way they are because electricity flows from negative poles to positive poles, so the positive sign accepts energy and the negative sign generates energy?

I’ve heard this a couple of times and I think it’s currently the likeliest explanation, to be honest! Ancient philosophy didn’t account for our magnetic sciences, I guess

One of my favorite get-to-know-you questions is “what color would you describe yourself as and why?” So what color would the LI’s choose to represent themself?

Oh, this was an interesting one, especially contrasting their favorite ones!

X: Dark red.

A: Silver.

R: Blue.

D: Forest green, same as their favorite color.

I’ll leave the “why” part up to interpretation ;)
