I am garbage. Why. How dare I do this with my own fingers. I just cannot believe I made a fic for the Miraculous Ladybug fandom.
A fic about Ivan and Mylene, help us all. Aaaaaand Adrien and Marinette.
“Don’t you just love the carnival?” Rose hummed as she frolicked along the rows of booths, her hands twitching with the urge to reach out and touch the prizes that hung on display.
She had already gotten in trouble for it about ten times today.
Juleka sighed, brushing purple streaked hair from her eyes as she followed close behind, already foiling Rose’s need to touch everything that came into eye sight every few seconds. “Yes, but don’t you want to try the rides? The bumper cars and Ferris wheel looks cool.” Her eyes marked Rose’s hands reaching for a plush panda hanging outside a ball game, already snatching the blonde’s wrist to prevent yet another irritated carnival worker.
That being done, she they turned her gaze to the silent girl following them through the aisles, multi-colored dreadlocks almost as droopy as the girl’s attitude at the word ‘rides’. “Say Mylene, do you want to ride with us?”
Instantly, the girl recoiled, wringing her fingers in her shirt as she slowed her steps. “W-What? No. I’m...just going to watch. Yeah, watching is fine.” she muttered weakly, looking pale as Rose skipped up and seized her arm instead.
“Yay! I’ll buy you cotton candy after! Let’s GO!” She squealed before trapping Juleka’s arm and successfully dragging the two girls twice her size down the aisle towards the rides.
Until she and her captives barreled over two other people that were unfortunately in her way.
Poor Adrien and Marinette laid under the pile of girls, wincing at the destruction and the weight on their ribs.
“Oops! Sorry guys!” Rose giggled, eagerly popping up on the balls of her feet, hands moving to help each person back on two legs. “I guess I probably should watch where I’m walking, huh?”
“Probably-” Adrien groaned, brushing dirt from his hair and accepting Juleka’s helping hand while Marinette rubbed dust from her face.
“That was a surprise.” The dark haired girl sighed, ignoring the giggle from her handbag. No doubt Tikki mocking her clumsy accident. But, her morose behavior melted away when Adrien turned and helped her stand up.
Mylene just laid there, silently debating faking injury and weaseling out of the rides all together. But, then Rose would feel awful and Mylene hadn’t the heart to do that to her bubbly friend.
So, she pursed her lip and accepted Rose’s aid, standing and brushing the dust from her shirt.
“Where are you three going in such a hurry?” Marinette asked lightly, taking one long side step away from Adrien with red cheeks and one embarrassed smile. It was almost painful to watch.
“The Ferris Wheel!” Rose cheered and seized her victims once again. “You guys should come too!”
Acting on one wavelength, Juleka and Mylene snatched both Marinette’s and Adrien’s arm before the entire group was dragged along my the ecstatic Rose. “Ah, I just can’t wait to ride with all my friends!”
The giant metal wheel loomed over them as they neared, and Mylene felt like the bile of her stomach would come up to visit is she didn’t find a way out, fast.
Fortunately, fate was on her side.
“Sorry, only two per carriage.” the worker said in boredom, fiddling with his badge and not making eye contact with them unless necessary.
And she seized her cue with all the speed of Ladybug dealing with an akuma.
“Well I guess I’ll pass then!” Mylene sighed with false disappointment. “But don’t let me spoil the fun, here Juleka and Rose can ride together and Adrien and Marinette can share!”
Ignoring Marinette’s spluttered protests and Rose’s disappointed ‘awws’, Mylene pushed the pairs together before sprinting away from the ride, her heart pounding in her chest and not once looking back.
She just wanted to hide and sing her song, maybe catch up with her friends later. At least they would think she was upset rather than being afraid. The whole issue with the Horrificator was something she did not want to relive.
Only, she crashed face first into someone, and vaulted back on her rear from the force.
“Woah, Mylene! Are you okay?” a familiar voice asked, warm hands moving to grasp her shoulders and shake her gently.
“...Ivan?” The blonde girl muttered, rubbing her nose and glancing up to face inquisitive gray eyes. With the same bones shirt, Ivan looked different wearing a rainbow afro wig and many light up necklaces.
He looked almost comical.
“Okay so you didn’t scramble your brains. That’s good.” he breathed, hoisting her up like an adult would a toddler, patting her head in self assurance. “But why were you running?”
Ashamed, Mylene looked to her shoes, fingers twisting in her shirt again. “...heights...” she breathed softly.
“What?” Ivan asked, leaning closer and cupping his ears.
“HEIGHTS.” Mylene burst out, nearly quaking into a million pieces. “Rose, Juleka, Marinette, and Adrien could pair up to ride the Ferris Wheel, but I’m too afraid of heights to ride alone!”
She wanted to disappear or better yet go home and forget this school trip ever happened. At least Chloe and Sabrina were nowhere to be seen. Her dignity was still slightly there.
However, she knew she looked ridiculous in front of Ivan, the toughest kid in school. He’d never like a cowardly girl like her, not in a hundred yea-
“Seriously, that’s it? No problem, just ride with me.” Ivan declared with no room for argument, scowling and nodding as if agreeing with himself.
She blinked, her mouth ajar.
Two seconds later, he realized how he sounded. Pink flushed his cheek as he looked anywhere but her, babbling nonsense now. “W-Well, if you want to, I mean-it’s not like I’ll force you but facing fears alone can be hard and...w-well, I have tickets and like...stuff.”
Ivan paused, nervously glancing back to Mylene. “Okay?” he parroted cautiously.
Mylene nodded, biting her bottom lip. “Yeah...but...um...can I-never mind it’s stupid.”
“What? Come on, you can tell me.” Ivan tried, almost self destructing on nerves alone. Especially when she brushed curled locks of hair behind her ears.
“...Can I...well...uh...h-hold your h-hand?” Mylene squeaked, face burning from embarrassment. Oh what if he said no, what if he changed his mind, what if he laughed at her, what if-
“Is that it? Here, take it.” Ivan said evenly, not betraying his inner turmoil. His thoughts were on fire, all processes shutting down at the fact of holding the hand of the girl he was secretly nuts about. Instead, he held his hand out, nearly combusting when her delicate hand slipped into his.
“Alright, let’s ride together.” he assured as he lead the way back to the Ferris Wheel, a calm Mylene in tow.
............................................................
“Wow, Ivan’s so bold!” Marinette cooed as she watched the pair climb the ramp to ride the wheel, crouched behind a garbage can. “Go Mylene, do your best!” she cheered softly with a tiny fist pump to follow.
“Hey Marinette, maybe cheer for them but not behind garbage can?” Adrien whispered, equally crouched and spying from the other side of the garbage can. “We are getting some strange looks.”
“OH right, right!” The dark haired girl gasped, leaping away with nervous embarrassment as Adrien followed with a smile. “Sorry, I got a little distracted.”
Adrien, with all his cinnamon sweetness and gentle eyes, laughed and shook his head. “I was looking too, remember? But, now that I have your attention again-” he gestured to the booth where she had left him playing ring tosses, “pick a prize, my lady.”
Marinette was certain she was as red as her ladybug costume, nervously scanning the prizes ad completely missing his slip up.
She settled for a stuffed Chat Noir chibi, never catching Adrien’s wayward eyes on the ladybug chibi with a fond expression.
