Goodnight, world! Today was such a long day. I had my last clinic visit for this course of IV antibiotics - my clinic does check-ups weekly while doing home IVs. I'll be completing the course tomorrow... just in time to fly to Deutschland! #cysticfibrosis #livelaughbreathe #cfirl #ivantibiotics #homeivs #portacath #oxygen #bedtime

It’s not the most of “inviting” sights to greet you as you enter into Watford General Hospital. By “inviting” I mean bloody grim and depressing. BrutalIst architecture that wouldn’t look out of place in communist Russia from the 60’s/70’s. The feeling of claustrophobia creeping in on you as every inch of space scavenged and guarded to within an inch of its life. Bulging at the seams with temporary portacabins made permanent, new building squeezed next to one another and a patchwork of tunnels and bridges interconnecting the attempts of finding yet more space on a finite place of land. It’s abundantly clear that the hospital needs more space, more land, areas to breathe and not be in the straight jacket that it currently is. But that’s never going to happen in today’s climate. Day 2 of my #ivantibiotics continues at #watfordgeneralhospital I’m tired already and still have a while to go. Hopefully only 3 more days to go after this, and hopping that my #cellulitis #infection never bothers my #lisfrancfracture and #crps ever again. Day 2 of IV antibiotics treatment. I’m up early (so not a morning person) and on the bus to hospital. I could taxi/Uber it, but the bus goes along more or less the same route and sits in the same traffic jams - thus cheaper. Yesterday wiped me out. Woke up today feeling knackered and wondering how I’ll last the IV session without falling asleep! On the upside, the swelling around my Frankenfoot ankle seems to have gone down a lot with all the rest and elevation which is a Brucey Bonus point! Although my legs remain painful as hell - but hey, looking on the positives and having more mobility back is definitely a huge plus 🙂 Should I ever get this infection again, at least I know what symptoms to look out for, and hope that it doesn’t target my #lisfranc or #crps areas first! Pain, pain, screaming and more pain. That’s kinda been my morning. Up bright and early to get back to the hospital for a Doppler scan which involved me taking my trousers off and having large bulbous plastic probes pressed hard into my legs - cue screaming in pain. On the upside, no evidence of blood clots! Yay! On the downside, that means it’s some sort of infection and will involved more attempts at getting a canula in to set up the IV antibiotics. Boy that was another journey of pain and screaming. No veins to be found, so we tried the old trick of sticking my hand in hot water for a minute, slapping it senseless, then diving in with the needle, ramming it into the vein and press ganging it down. ALL THE SCREAMING. And of course the blood. Blood spurting everywhere. So, here I am for the next few hours being flushed through with IV antibiotics. What happens next, who knows.
