May is Lyme Disease Awareness month and I'm planning to post some things I rarely share about what my life has been like the past seven years living with untreated Lyme and co-infections. . A local reporter from KY3 | KSPR recently came to our home and interviewed me about my experience with Lyme. Ever since the interview aired I've received an outpouring of emails, IMs and phone calls from people in the area who are desperately ill with Lyme symptoms but have not been able to get answers or treatment. This breaks my heart each and every time. . For me, it took many doctors and specialists nearly 2 years to figure out what was causing my body to shut down and damaging my heart and nervous system, causing unrelenting pain throughout my whole body, several autoimmune conditions and too many symptoms to mention here. . My body was deteriorating so quickly that I literally believed I was dying. I tested positive for Lyme and Tularemia, another tick-borne disease. I was thankful for a diagnosis because it meant we had answers...and I could start treatment. The road back to health hasn't been an easy one but I'm thankful for each small gain and the slow and steady progress I've made over the years. I was bedridden for months and had to quit my teaching job. But Jesus was there for me even in my darkest hours and I'm thankful for His faithfulness in the storms. Today I'm thankful to be spending Thanksgiving with my amazing husband and four awesome kids. 😊 . We had brunch at home in our p.j.s this morning then watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. . Next up is a movie marathon, 🎥 then pizza 🍕 and sawdust pie (not keto) for dinner (It's a Southern dessert my KY hubby loves.) 😉 . We celebrated with grandparents and extended family on D's side a few days ago and tomorrow we'll spend more time being thankful with my parents and brother's family. . When you're doing laundry but your Boston wants to take a nap (smack dab in the middle of everything)... Yeah, I could kick him out but he looks so comfy and peaceful. And he's my buddy and I love him. 🐕 . So I let him be, work around him and enjoy his low, guttural snoring - which in a sort of weird way brings me peace too. . PURPOSE Always focusing on to-do lists and the things I accomplish and don't get done for the day never brings me peace or fulfillment (especially during a Lyme flare like I'm having now when I'm behind on everything). . For me, only God can fulfill me.✝️Okay, and maybe a few puppy dog snores thrown in for good effect. 🐾 Jk . But I have to remind myself of this because the world promises many pathways to happiness, peace and fulfillment. . I'm most connected to my true purpose in life not with a screen or a Wi-Fi connection. But out in nature, with friends and family, talking to Jesus 👐, at the beach 🏖️ and hanging with our puppies (not in that order). .
