Last day in Mumbai was spent creating a mural in the workshop/embroidery space of Animedh Charitable Trust with the women artisans of @i_was_a_sari ✨ We had destroyed the walls by accident drawing and taping fabric to them, so I offered to collaborate on a mural. It was based off of #cuevadelasmanos (my favorite) meets a forest. The women turned the hands into beautiful examples of #mehndi ✋🏽✋🏼✋🏾 and we called it हाथों का जंगल - haathon ka jungle - forest of hands. There aren’t words to describe the beauty of women ranging from teens to grandmothers of all major religions and backgrounds working together in ✌🏽peace✌🏻 to create art. It was magic. Then we took a bunch of silly selfies and photos. After the tiniest of #tarpaulintapestries w/ @i_was_a_sari was installed and the opening @piramalmuseum was finished, it was time to prepare the large tarps for installation at #dharavi with @artoxygen @realityindia ... Here’s some process shots of flying and placing the prints and sari pieces onto the taros. Thank you to Amal Exports for lending us there outdoor space as a studio!! Also, a huge thank you to the loveliest of assistants @annagiuliani_ for working until late and then again very early with nothing but smiles. Another shoutout to @alixandrabarrondesigns for lending us her designs to make them giant! All the little details from the last workshop with the women artisans of @i_was_a_sari - it was incredible. We painted with threads stitching all kind of prints, paintings, and cutouts of up cycled saris into tarpaulin. The end result is truly beautiful and you can see the tiniest of the tarps on display today @piramalmuseum Kurla gallery from 5-8PM & there will be one final workshop before installation at Dharavi tomorrow with @artoxygen @realityindia !!!
