Very little coasting this week and lots of computery stuff and deadlines. I went for a walk on the main beach earlier in the week. I was hoping to be inspired for this week’s post but all I got was my ear infection rebooted. Well not entirely true. Gotta count ’em all! -Join the all island whale watch this Saturday

Although they can be been seen throughout the year, the most frequent sightings of whales occurs around now in late summer and autumn when they come to their seasonal feeding grounds. Our coast is an ideal feeding area for these gentle giants, located midway as many migrate across the Atlantic between Western Africa and Northern Scandinavia. So I didn't shoot this video from my Ilur, but on a whale watching trip departing from Castletownshend, the next harbour to the west. The whales are Fin whales, the second largest animal on the planet and they decided to show up off the West Cork coast early this year(they are at their peak in October/ November). My sister was back on home on holiday and it was her idea to go. It's amazing the things that are on your door step that you never even think about doing because you think they are too tourist-y! Boy am I glad I went, it was fantastic. These guys were filmed several miles off Seven Heads. I would lose my life if they surfaced beside me in An Suire!!
