IYL Moving Images - Klein, Stunt

Directed by Josh Homer and Klein, the videos comes off more as an art video rather than a music video. The Tanks at the Tate, with polished concrete everywhere and really dark and nice lighting would be ideal to show it. Homer has directed the majority of Klein’s videos, a partnership that has brought distinct visuals and impeccable style to the fore.

Come Near Me - Massive Attack ft. Ghostpoet (dir. Ed Morris)

Directed by Ed Morris, ‘Come Near Me’ by Massive Attack feat. Ghostpoet is menacing in its symbolism of harmful/poisonous relationship.

Magnetic fields, the two are separate from the outside world, isolated, yet never touch, do not exist without each other. The consistent distance between them emphasizes a pain they are accustomed to but wish to finally end. It’s a vicious cycle of madness and destruction. Ed Morris touched on his video in a recent Dazed article, “When you are going through something tough emotionally the world around you can seem so surreal. So pointless.”

 ‘Lend me another name’ - Klyne (Director’s Cut)

Alan Masferrer directs the new video for Klyne, it is surreal, grotesque and hypnotic. The combination of CGI and live action images creates a powerful dynamic between the video and the music. Each building the other in their atmosphere.

The bass and piano and vocals applied to the shimmering surfaces of the subjects fits the clear nature of the sounds. They are unconventional together and are both so good.

‘Daniel’ - Michael Hull

Directed by Portland based Michael Hull, ‘Daniel’ shows the life of an Oregon boy. The position of him in relation to everything else is isolated, the cinematography is effective in conveying its melancholy, the pallet is very controlled but not boring, the warm to cold colours engaging. This mixing of visuals and emotions works as they should and better.

While the film is not easy to understand fully, it gives a lot to grab onto. You’ll be thinking about it for a while...
