Ok but hear me out,

A IZ MLP AU is very valid cause magic.

Uhhhh Quick rundown of the AU.

Dib: Unicorn son of Professor ‘Membrane’ Periodic Elements and ‘Pec’ Swift Justice. He was born with a unusually high magic level, that was coupled with the feathers all over him. The only ponies with feathers were Pegasi and Alicorns but the feathers was written off because of his Pegasus mother. Pec left, only 3 years after Dib’s birth, for Canterlot to pursue her dream of opening up her own lawyers office. Dib was crushed with the expectations of being a great and powerful Unicorn after this, and was tasked with training his magical abilities at a earlier age than most. This all came to a head when he was accepted to take the entrance exam for Celestia’s School Of Gifted Unicorns. ( Unlike MLP Canon, it is very unusual for a foal/filly to be accepted and Twilight and Sunset were special cases.) Professor Membrane and Dib arrived in the capitol during the time of the royal wedding and was attacked with the rest of Canterlot on their way to the school. It didn’t take long for Dib to be separated from his father and be cornered by a Changeling. It all happened so fast, one second he was swimming in and out of consciousness, all his magic drained, and the next he was surrounded by guards telling him to get up and it was ok now. Dib has a phobia of Canterlot after this. Zim came in the picture a few months later. Dib, angered that a Changeling would dare come near Ponyville let alone him, decided to make it his mission to out Zim for the Changeling scum he was.This goes on until the eventual reform of the Changeling hive and Zim goes missing. Dib thinks hes won until he is enrolled in Princess Twilight’s new School Of Harmony and is greeted to Zim being one of the few Changeling representatives. Blah blah blah, Zim and Dib fight more, something something, Dib stops fighting Zim when he gets closer to Twilight, seeing her as the mother figure he never had, yadda yadda, Dib is mentored by Princess Twilight and is basically adopted by her. Also Zim and Dib become friends and then Boyfriends. :)

Zim: Drone from the Irken Hive. He was never the strongest Drone, having no wings and weak magic. He was basically the runt of the Hive, the but of all jokes. When his commanders are pushed into being the newly crowned kings of the Hive, Zim sees his chance to finally climb the ranks. These two would be more willing to see his greatness, right? Wrong. He is promptly exiled after the hive joins forces with Queen Chrysalis after the Canterlot attack. He soon comes across a lone Diamond Dog and takes pity on the poor pup, naming him Gir. The two make it to Ponyville where Zim meets Dib. After the whole Throax reformation, he is pulled back to the Hive and is accepted back into the Hive. He is chosen to represent the Hive after Thorax overhears Zim bragging about ‘beating up’ a powerful Unicorn while in exile.
