Reaper always struck me as someone who gets cute aggression and often bites out of affection. This, however, had inadvertently given Fizzy a bit of a biting problem as a young kid.
Somewhat a comfort piece. I just really wanted to draw these two <3
Took a two day break due to sickness, but I'm back with a revenge on BelovedStill! Was in a lineless mood today :)
I love this lil guy; He's so cute!! <3
I've officially lost my mind; I love him so much 🥺
I watched one singular playthrough and the hyperfixation brain worms grabbed me through the screen so violently I felt his ad jingle reverberate through my bones. My hands signing adoption papers before I was able to make a conscious thought. It's gotten so bad I started acting like him. People are screaming; My family is crying. I accidently drop something and say I have 'Doey fingers' instead of butter fingers; The world explodes.
In all seriousness he's probably all I'm gonna be drawing for an extended period of time... So just a heads up ajslsjkls
Just tweedledee and tweedledum meeting for the first time /affectionate
This was done as a sort of warm-up and comic page practice for a project I have planned involving Doey... And despite that this entire thing took 2 months through sickness and multiple days long migraines to get it done. At least they're comforting to draw jkssjkkl
I tried to do something a lil different with the dough blobs speech bubbles; the color indicating which child is speaking at the moment. It's more obvious on Doey, but it's a feature Doenette will have also.
New critters cause the poppy brainrot hit me like a freight train
All of these critters were based off my idea of the Smiling Critter's TV show having a Halloween special: the critters are taken to a supposedly abandoned haunted manor where they are divided on whether or not ghosts and monsters are real. Shenanigans then ensue when the run into the inhabitants.
Rambles and Info Below 🎃 ↓
Bug-a-Boo:
Bug-a-Boo was based off a firefly and is one of the only critters ever to be shown with colored eyes, which were shown to glow along with his tail; this bioluminescence also transferred over to his plush in the form of glow-in-the-dark fabric. He was often shown to buzz his wings when excited. Very bubby bubby with Callie and the two were often shown creating havoc together.
A bigger body of Bug-a-Boo was actually put into production, but for the factory setting and not Playcare. His large size, ability to fly, along with his multiple limbs made moving heavy objects around almost a breeze and his creation was supposed to eliminate the need for forklifts and pallet jacks. His conditioning was quite successful, and he was known to be loyal to staff and did most of what he was told no questions asked. Until he didn't… See Bug-a-Boo was often starved if he didn't do something up to management standards. He was afraid of failure and grew increasingly more jumpy and paranoid of everyone around him until the accident. While attempting to move a few large boxes of toys, Bug-a-Boo got frightened by a falling latter and ended up crashing into a shelf where it then collapsed, causing 5 casualties and another employee to lose a leg. This caused Bug-a-Boo to panic and in the chaos the escaped the factory and found their way into the cave systems beneath it where they remained unaccounted for and presumed dead. Though if you asked anyone who worked down there, they'd tell you that they can occasionally hear a slight buzzing or see weird glowing lights in the sections inaccessible to staff.
Harvey Hoax:
Harvey Hoax is the owner of the haunted manor featured in the special and spends the deration of the episode convincing the critters that he's a vengeful spirit before being supposedly outed as a fraud near the end. According to messages between the staff team Harvey Hoax was directly referenced off of Harley Sawyer, though whether or not he was aware or had any input in Harvey's design or characterization isn't known. Harvey was based off of a Jackal, but has been accidently labeled as a coyote a few times in advertising which has led to discourse among fans of the show about his species. Harvey is also pseudo-melanistic!
Because of who Harvey was based off of and his limited story ideas, he was only ever shown again in 2-parter leaving some to say he's 'wasted potential'.
Callie Cabra:
Much like her name implies, Callie Cabra is based off an interpretation of the Chupacabra legend, toned down from it's original description to be more dog-like to make her more suitable for a child audience. However despite this, Callie was directly involved with the traumatization of many young fans who watched the special and she has quite a few 'lost media' hoaxes and creepypastas revolving around her. Callie was shown again in the second Halloween special that aired, alongside Frankie. She was shown to be very friendly with Bug-a-Boo and the two often hang around each other.
A few concepts for a bigger body of Callie were made as jokes, mainly made to experiment with various horror styles. Unlike the other critters, it doesn't seem like any mini toys were made of her either. And of course, a rumor has spread from this claiming that one was made, or in some variations of it a smaller variation of a bigger body design, but it then became violet and ended the scientist that made it.
Frankie Froglet:
Only two new Smiling Critters were part of this special [compared to 3 Nightmare Critters] with Frankie being the more memorable of the two with his upbeat personality, struggle of understanding typical social norms, a general interesting design., and his gag of being able to remove his stitched on limbs and even control them while they were detached; often used to give his friends or newcomers a bit of a fright. His plush form also reflected this in having his stitched on limbs be magnetic and thus removable!
Frankie is part of a plot hole in the critters TV show. Where the fact that he was capable of removing his limbs was seemingly forgotten by the end of the special when the main Smiling Critters crew decided that ghosts and monsters didn't exist after supposedly outing Harvey as a fraud. This plothole seems to have been retconned with Frankie showing up in a another shorter Halloween special where he's touted to be the big bad undead monster that the group should fear until someone is brave enough to give him him a chance and learns that he isn't scary after all. This created another plothole in and of itself as Frankie already made peace with the group in the first special so it's weird that he was a stranger to them again in the second. It is heavily debated among fans on the timeline of these two specials, whether one of them is canon or not given the difference in writers, or if they're different universes.
A bigger body of Frankie was indeed made for Playcare, but after management deemed his looks "too scary" he was then put under and had his limbs and features surgically replaced to make him more suitable to be around the children. The surgery was successful, but in following days Frankie unfortunately was put down following what the lab deems the "Frankie Incident"
Caspurr:
The second of the two Smiling Critters featured in the special. Caspurr's design itself was the most striking part of her character. Her furless patches gave her an almost werewolf-esque look, which was supposedly directly based off the cat of one of the artists that designed her. Caspurr was shown to be a more shy and sweet critter, using roleplaying, cosplay, and make-believe as a way to feel more comfortable with herself, which resonated with many. She was originally written to be a potential partner for Catnap specifically, but given management's disapproval of any of the critters having blatant love interests, Caspurr was toned down to just be a "very good friend". But that doesn't mean the animators didn't add any romantic undertones into the special under the noses of management. She was also referenced in a few following episodes as a long distance "friend" that he wrote back and forth to.
A bigger body of Caspurr, or experiment 1211, was created, but any documents about her usage were left redacted.... ;)
Harvey Hoax was designed by predaplants on TH; I designed the rest :)
Oops all tigers! - Af design batch :3
By the time I got to attack 3 I realized all my ideas were tigers, so why don't I make all 5 tigers at this point. So here we are 👍
