Still noodling along with these three.
Concept art for Ui'Ja'ran, the cobbler on the Great Adaptation. Bond of Mavi and Tme'i. An engineer working with the autotailors that produce shoes, as well as any custom work.
Ja'ran has had an autoimmune condition in the past, causing his blotchy skin coloration. It remains a social barrier for him for a variety of reasons. Many t'au that should know better still blanch at his appearance, and he got sick just as his career could have progressed. His momentum stayed, instead further specialising on a 'ui suitable role.
He did find a nice role on ship - working with the merchant department allows him access to local, even alien materials! He's got good attention for detail, material quality and interactions, and treats the autotailors with love. He speaks Low Gothic as a hobby and he takes gue'vesa needs seriously. It shows in the chain of ne'tenx'eo he keeps in his workshop.
He works in a team of other autotailor engineers, those who do uniforms. They're all part of the logistics group.
He's a bit older than both Mavi and Tme'i. He loves them dearly, they see him and value him. Together the three of them have a wonderful workflow. Clients can come to them for anything, be it a prosthetic, an adjustment, or just specialty shoes. It's a powerful trio to be on a singular brainwave.
"My illness was thought to be stand-alone, but when a full brother also got sick, it was traced to our dam. Her hab suffered a bioweapon attack when she was a fio'ui. I don't know what's more tragic. That she was the victim of a bombing, or that she was made to send us formal apologies."
Ja'ran… has some opinions. I'm working on refining these three and I've figured out what I want the craniofacial joint musculature to be like. Ja'ran is showing signs of stress and significant emotion here - grinding his teeth and 'yawning', baring his teeth. It's not a polite expression to be wearing in public, similar to a pained grimace.
WIP of Tme'i, Ja'ran and Mavi. Having fun exploring their body types.
Tme'i is considered not just muscular but bulky, in a very aesthetically pleasing way.
Ja'ran is narrow and thin for an earth caste, and of course his skin appearance makes many t'au balk.
Where Ja'ran gets negative responses, Mavi more often gets positive reception - her disability is considered 'honourable', where Ja'rans past illness is a weakness.
Sketching...
Mavi, Tme'i and Ja'ran in their home sphere. Sleeping quarters on the Great Adaptation deserve their very own deep dive, I've been working on it in the background.
