The page to the left in the worn leather journal has a pencil portrait of a dark coyote drawn standing tall and proud among rocks and assorted flora of the desert.
"I ran into you today, pa. I've heard people talk about a black or grey coyote, but today I saw it. I'm sure that it was you, pa, but you growled and barked at me like you didn't recognize me. Though I'm sure that if I gave myself the chance to look in a mirror, I wouldn't recognize me either. I've become a wicked thing, pa. Maybe things would've turned out different if you were still alive, but sometimes I think that I just would've turned the same. I miss you, regardless of what would have happened."
"Sometimes writing is balancing a tightrope of the right words, the right feelings, your soul strung into a tight line, hoping you don’t fall off."
- Jack Thorn
Cas and Jack would probably collect stickers, postcards, and patches from places they've been to while on trips, and have a board or a sort of album to put them in.
They also try to take a photo of themselves to put in with the little "souvenirs". It's a little thing between them two, an activity/hobby they can both enjoy together.
Eventually it sort of becomes a family thing once they settle down. It starts off with Claire sending them a little postcard and photo; Jack very excitedly puts it in the album. From that comes a whole little section for family, while still being a thing between Cas and Jack.
Since they don't travel much, it starts to be little cards, stickers, and flyers from shops and restaurants they visit.
It's them building a place of good memories together, despite all the bad, while also simply being something they really enjoy doing.
HC that Jack Skellington's kid is just a femur bone

SiTREP- August 14, 2048. We made the push today.
I know it’s not the first push we’ve done. Nor is it going to be the last, but we lost four people today. Four people from our program, built to be goddamn superman, but were torn part by the fucking OR-14′s that are coming out of Denver. I ran out of pulse-packs three times, thankfully
i
was able to scavenge. I managed to save Choi today, staunching the femoral artery that got blew through, but we lost Jaime. We lost Benny. I can hear Gabe praying in the next tent over, even though he pretends he’s not.
He’s got his St. Michael’s medallion, his rosary. I can hear the click of the beads from here.
It says non-denominational on his tag, and Catholic on mine.
but here?
Here.
There’s no God.
Just death.
————————– END LOG ————————————————-
"I killed a man that had a son today. I hate it when I do that. I orphaned a man just like I was when my pa was gunned down."
(More was written, but was crudely scratched out in ink- odd for the journal that's written in pencil. A large and darkened phrase is splotched at the bottom of the page.)
"I'M A ROTTEN MAN"
