Belannah + Puppies

They’ve talked about this multiple times, but it’s still hard for them to choose between all the different dogs present. Hannah’s told Bela that she personally wants a bigger breed, and Bela’s gone off about how they were only getting a dog under the condition that they get a purebred. Hannah hopes it won’t be too difficult, but she’s sure Bela will put up a fight with the decision Hannah makes if the dog wasn’t perfect in her eyes.

"We’re taking this one," Bela’s voice says from behind Hannah, and she startles at the ferocity and sureness of her tone. Hannah turns around to see which one could’ve passed Bela’s critiques that fast, and understands at once when she reads the sign hung on his cage, reading returned by previous owner. 

Hannah kneels in front of the cage, lowering herself to get better view of the mutt (for that’s what he was—a mutt). He stays curled in the corner of the cage, cautiously eyeing Bela and Hannah, but not encouraged enough to greet them. “What should we name him?” she asks softly, and at once she sees Bela’s expression soften. They take their new family member home that night.
