Hinduism in Change Your Mind?
Okay SO! I've seen a lot of people comparing Obsidian to Taka from Moana, which is reasonable but I have a slightly different idea! And that is that Obsidian is based off of the Hindu Goddess Kali! Don't believe my theory? Take a look for yourself!
From this image it seems like a stretch but look at some other paintings of Kali!
Some depictions are even similar to Obsidian in color! Or even her second face! Albeit not an actual face on the goddess. Other than that Kali happens to be a war goddess, and what does Obsidian do in the the episode? Freakin FIGHT! But this leads me onto another tangent, was a general theme of Change Your Mind inspired by Hinduism?? Well, to put it broadly, Hinduism is an outlook on life to essentially live as happy and as prosperous as you can while also AVOIDING being reincarnated. And what is Steven trying to do? Get everyone to live as happily as possible! And when his gem got removed what happened? Pink didn't form, a Pink Steven did! Essentially saying that Pink Diamond AVOIDED being reincarnated!
Now I wanna talk about something interesting about White Diamond that ties this all in, after White Diamond becomes "Off-Color" due to Steven, it is revealed that she's not flawless at all, but she's fabricated an illusion that she's supposed to be flawless and so she has no real understanding of her true nature. Why am I talking about this?
Well, it all has to do with another concept of Hinduism, "Maya". Maya is at its most basic explanation, an (often self fabricated) illusion that hides the truth about ones self and their true nature, status, and purpose. Thus, I believe that Change Your Mind was heavily inspired by Hinduism.
Anyways, that is my little theory on Change Your Mind, I know it's probably got some flaws but hey, all theories do, either way I hope you found it interesting!
