Before seeing the season 5 teaser I was sure that Mike was going to be the one to get Vecna’d but after seeing it I am starting to think that it will be Will. Who do you think is more likely to be targeted by Henry?
So we talked about this lol but that’s a really good question. I also was set on Mike being Vecna’d, but as it seems to be in the teaser, Will is obviously being singled out from Mike, Lucas, and Dustin.
Something’s capturing his attention that no one else is acknowledging. This is Vecna’s doing almost guaranteed.
But I think that it’s still up in the air as to what’s happening to Will, here, and how Vecna is talking to him. This could be The Party meeting and Will spacing out for a moment. It could be a really vivid dream of a callback to The Party meeting in the woods. It could be a completely fabricated reality. We can’t say for sure. I will say that this scene in particular looks like a very real meeting and Will being drawn away, but another part of me wonders if it’s a complete fabrication. Like, why would Vecna take Will away from the others even for a second while they’re the only people there? Before, he was able to draw Will away from the other boys in the arcade because they were preoccupied talking to Keith. Here, they have no excuse to miss Will being Vecna’d.
Unless Vecna creates a farce in which Will is still somehow conscious in reality and completely dissociating. That would be interesting. Whatever the weather, I think, yeah, it’s clear that Vecna is aiming for Will.
But as for Mike, we don’t have any leads yet, but I still think that Vecna could aim for him, too, maybe as a final effort in convincing Will to join him by torturing Mike. I could also see Vecna targeting Mike through nightmares or even subtle vision in dreams. Mike is Will’s heart, after all, and I think that his weight to the storyline as pertains to Will is going to be crucial for Vecna to break.
That being said, if the Stranger Things VR game holds any canon weight, it appears that Vecna is going to be most concerned about Will. He was quickly unsuccessful in invading Lucas, Dustin, and Mike’s minds, but he lingered much longer in Will’s. And he threatens that “[Will is] going to be the one that lets [him] into their minds.”
But now, time has passed, and the game seems to have taken place between seasons 2 and 3, so maybe Mike is much more broken down, especially after the insecurity he expresses about himself in the van scene. Maybe Vecna will find ways to break him down and capture him, too. But I think that overall, Will is most vulnerable and crucial to be taken.
All in all, I’m scared for them both. :,)
