Starlit Confession
A Novel by Xiao
Chapter One: A Collision of Fate
Ahyeon’s breath came in short, excited bursts as she hurried down the brightly lit hallway of the SBS broadcasting station. Her first year-end music show. Her first big stage alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. And yet, her hands trembled—not from nerves about performing, but because of the small notebook she held close to her chest.
It was filled with lyrics she had been too shy to share. Melodies scribbled in the margins. Pieces of herself that no one had ever heard.
As she rounded the corner, her foot caught on the polished floor, and before she could react—bam!
Ahyeon crashed into someone, sending her notebook flying. She stumbled back, heart hammering as she met a pair of warm brown eyes.
Na Jaemin.
The Na Jaemin from NCT Dream.
“Oh my— I’m so sorry, sunbaenim!” Ahyeon stammered, bowing deeply.
Jaemin, unfazed, bent down to retrieve her notebook, flipping through the pages. “What’s this?” His eyes scanned the words. “You write songs?”
Ahyeon’s face burned as she quickly grabbed it from him. “Just… a hobby.”
Jaemin tilted his head, an amused smile tugging at his lips. “I’d like to hear them someday.”
Her heart skipped a beat.
Chapter Five: Midnight Conversations
Their encounters were no longer just chance. Somewhere between rehearsals, interviews, and performances, Ahyeon and Jaemin had formed an unspoken connection.
One evening, after hours of practice for a special collaboration stage, Ahyeon found herself escaping to the rooftop of the studio. The city stretched endlessly before her, twinkling with neon signs and streetlights, a reminder of how small she felt in this industry.
Jaemin appeared beside her, his hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie. “Escaping?” he asked, leaning against the railing.
She sighed, hugging her knees. “Just… catching my breath.”
Jaemin exhaled, looking up at the sky. “It’s crazy sometimes, right? Being an idol.”
Ahyeon nodded. “I love it, but… sometimes it feels like I can’t be myself.”
He turned to face her, his expression unreadable. “You are yourself. The Ahyeon I see? She’s passionate, hardworking, and stronger than she thinks.”
Her heart clenched. No one had ever said that to her before. “Jaemin…”
He smiled. “That’s better.”
Ahyeon blinked in confusion.
“No ‘sunbaenim.’ Just Jaemin.”
A quiet warmth spread through her chest.
Chapter Ten: The Scandal
The flash of cameras. The whispers of speculation.
Ahyeon sat frozen in her company’s meeting room, her phone buzzing relentlessly with notifications.
BREAKING: NCT’s Jaemin and BABYMONSTER’s Ahyeon Spotted Together Late at Night!
A grainy photo of them walking together, their faces barely visible, had been enough to set the internet on fire.
“Stay away from him,” her manager warned, sliding a statement of denial across the table. “For your career’s sake.”
Meanwhile, Jaemin sat in a similar office, his CEO’s voice ringing in his ears. “You know the rules. You can’t risk everything for a crush.”
But it wasn’t just a crush.
As Ahyeon scrolled through the hateful comments and the rumors, one message stood out:
“I thought idols weren’t supposed to fall in love.”
Her grip tightened on her phone. Was that really true?
And if it was… why did it hurt so much?
Chapter Fifteen: Starlit Confession
The stadium lights shone brightly, illuminating thousands of cheering fans. NCT Dream’s encore stage was reaching its peak, their voices blending in perfect harmony.
Ahyeon watched from the wings, her heart pounding. She shouldn’t be here. She shouldn’t even be watching. But she couldn’t stay away.
Jaemin turned toward the crowd, his expression unreadable. Then, as the final chorus faded, he lifted his mic and spoke.
“This next song,” he said, his voice steady, “is for someone really special.”
A gasp rippled through the audience.
Ahyeon’s breath caught as Jaemin’s gaze found hers.
No more pretending.
No more hiding.
Because under the starlit sky, with thousands of voices singing around them, they had already made their choice.
And it was each other.
THE END.
