I think many times as a society when we think of who we would want to have in the room if we were to have a medical emergency, our brains automatically think “a doctor”. I am here to tell you after years of dealing with chronic illness/disability, that the better answer is nurse! I can’t count how many times they have caught drug interactions, advocated for me, and actually found a solution after the doctor had written it off as no big deal. Also the next time you get upset because you are a hard stick for an iv….whatever you do, DO NOT ask for the doctor to do it(they probably haven’t started an iv in years), who you really want is a NICU nurse!
