"I'd seldom succeeded in connecting with history when younger. Surprise! The trick is so simple a child could do it, so simple it's exactly what we were told as children all along: Imagine it's you; a trick I get to at the end of this song, a thing that happened by accident as I was singing and improvising and which was, on that day, a valuable lesson."

It's 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘆, and Richard is having his fill of the beverage (though considering how he's handling that cup and teapot, it's difficult to imagine anything but tepid refreshment in them!) The screenshots are from his iChat with Marlise Boland of The Anglophile Channel in Dec 2014. The Hobbit: BotFA is the main topic as seen in the first of the two-part interview here.
sisters and liars
chapter four
Miss Darcy and Miss Bennet left the side room arm in arm. They were soon in the company of the Muir Brothers and the loud dandy, who was introduced as Mr. Beau (thought they doubted that was his real name), once more. Each girl took the arm of one brother, with Richard rushing to take Kitty’s, and were steered around the room.
Many more introductions were made. Kitty began to worry that Georgiana’s assertion that not everyone knew who the Darcy’s were would soon be a falsehood. They had reached one end of the room and turned when Kitty spotted the man from the side room again. She was speaking to a tradesman and his sister when she glanced between them to one of the many looking glasses that lined the room's walls. He was watching her intently while she spoke, and then the siblings when it was their turn.
She expected it had simply been the result of their incidental positions and his proven partiality to eaves dropping. But as she moved throughout the room she saw him again and again. It was clear she was his object. He spoke to no one but seemed entirely intent upon knowing what she spoke of. Whether she was facing him or away, the looking glasses made it impossible to hide her face from him.
He began to realize that she had caught his scheme. But instead of shame or embarrassment he simply grinned at her, going so far as to wink into one mirror, no one else in the room any the wiser.
Stop it she mouthed into a mirror. He simply cupped a hand behind one ear and shrugged. He was infuriating.
This continued until the crush of the pump room and her interaction with it in reverse through mirrors, as well as her companion’s neglect forced her to bump directly into the insolent man himself.
“Oh, Captain Tilghman,” Mr. Beau spoke clearly while making full eye contact. “We beg your pardon. Have you met these fine new arrivals to Bath?”
“I have not,” he smirked.
“May I introduce Miss Darcy and Miss Bennet.”
Captain Tilghman made a point of nodding to each of them in the order they were actually introduced, as opposed to the order Mr. Beau meant them to be.
“It is a pleasure Miss Darcy,” he said turning to Georgiana.
“This is Miss Darcy,” Mr. Richard Muir nearly shouted at the captain.
“I’m quite deaf Mr. Muir,” Captain Tilghman drawled. “Shouting will make no difference.”
“Well if you are deaf, how do you know I speak louder!” Mr. Muir did not lower his voice.
“One can always tell when another is shouting. They look quite put out.”
Georgiana turned to Mr. Arthur Muir at her side “If he is deaf how can he understand us?”
Captain Tilghman tapped her shoulder and then pointed to his own eyes. “I can only understand you if I can clearly see your mouth. I read lips. What were you saying?”
Georgiana laughed a little uneasily. “I was just asking how you could understand us, but you have answered my question without realizing.”
Tilghman only gave a nod of comprehension to that. Then he bowed to the company and wished them enjoyment of their visit and the hope to see them again while it lasted. Then he gave one last knowing smile to Kitty and turned away.
“Poor devil,” Mr. Muir muttered. “Quite rich from all the prizes, but I don’t know if was worth the cost he paid for it.”
