"I didn't want to write breakup songs. They're generally boring. But I also couldn't just write as though things weren't going on in my life, so I submerged details in myth, in image, in grand themes.
This pattern would continue for about eleven years."
-- JD in 'This Year: 365 days annotated', 2025.
Since today is 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰 𝗝𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 I've been picturing Richard as a DJ spinning records before the advent of digital technology in the late '80s and early '90s. As of May 2024, he's served as a radio presenter for Classic FM, a role he could fill in any era. After all, the original DJs selected some or all of the music played and were quick-witted, entertaining, and able to “fill time” engagingly -- skills Rich has in spades. All he needs now is a cool moniker. 🎙️🎶⏺️
