If you were shipwrecked on a desolate planet in space alone, would you want to know that help* would be coming but that it would take 3 years for someone to reach you? Or would not knowing the when be easier?
I would want to know how long
I wouldn’t want to know how long
Nuance/depends on other factor(s)
*Assume you know for a fact they’ve sent a competent team to come get you and that you don’t have the means to repair your ship, but the sustainable supplies to survive long enough. You also are in weekly communications with your Mission Control, but not the rescue ship.
Is knowing it will be a long time worse than taking it day by day hoping it’s soon?
