MAGA and spineless, seditious Republicans like Tim Scott are setting the stage for Trump to sustain his BigLie about Election2020 and make the same damaging, blatantly false claims about Election2024.

Senator Scott is subordinating not only himself but also the United States’ Constitution, democratic processes and the votes of all Americans to right wing election denialism. Senator Tim Scott fulfills his role as Trump’s, MAGA Republicans’ and American Oligarchs’ Uncle Tom.

It's also the product of a long-running plan to render government largely inoperable. The plan was put together by corporate elites decades ago so all sorts of powerful industries (oil, chemicals, pharmaceuticals) would not be effectively regulated and taxes would not diminish obscene levels of profit. And it has been funded by billions in secret donations, as has been documented in the books "The Scheme" by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and "Dark Money" by journalist Jane Mayer. I know what we are watching now looks like a clown show. But the so-called "fight" among Republicans is part of a deeper disease. It is the natural culmination of an extremist philosophy that government should exist almost exclusively to promote private business rather than the broader public. This is why in the US the fossil fuel industry receives billions in annual subsidies while millions go hungry and cannot access basic health care. Think about it. Many of those elected are sent by their campaign funders to Washington not to govern but to disrupt. The goal is to ensure almost nothing of substance to help the broader public gets done. Consider the basic rights denied us in the US that people in almost every other civilized nation enjoy. Governments in those nations have national health plans and well-funded public schools. They protect consumers from pollution. They regulate chemicals that harm the environment. They have courts where judges don't have to audition for the Federalist Society. They keep violence down by banning guns. They protect reproductive rights. They don't turn their prisons into sources of private profit. They have equitable tax structures. They have sufficient housing so millions are not homeless. And they ensure no child goes hungry. None of this happens in the United States. Please do not look at this sad spectacle as entertainment. It's part of a long-running tragedy that hurts us all. We must keep that in mind as we fight to preserve our freedoms and what's left of our democracy.
