Shooting potential covers at the University of Missouri for a story comparing coed education vs. a women's college
(Peter Stackpole. 1949)
“I’m sorry,” Jane pressed her hand over her face. “You let them into the Order.”
Vera crossed over to place the bowl back on the shelf. “This is the best move. We need to get control them.”
“Vera, sweetie,” she sighed. “You can’t control werewolves. Trust me, I should know.”
The new Grand Magus turned to face her. “That’s why I called you. You have a history with the Knights.”
“In a sense.”
“In what sense is that?”
Jane could see on Vera’s face that whatever face she was making scared her, no matter how much she tried to hide it. She walked over, getting as close to Vera as to show who was truly in charge. “You may be the Grand Magus, but we both know which of us is in control here.”
“And I need those wolves under control,” she replied. “From what I’ve heard, you are the only one with experience with them.”
“What would I get out of this? Besides a headache.”
“I’m sure we can work something out.”
Jane sighed. “Tomorrow. At 3. If they’re late, they become your problem.”
