AU of the AU where gilf is the one who grows up with jared (or gilf goes to school with dinesh and jared?) anyway gilf has a bad home life and jared mentions something about it to gin and toni and they tell him that gilf is welcome in their home anytime. Gilf is hesitant at first because hes so edgy he says hed rather spend the night in a ditch or something. but he eventually gets more and more comfortable at jareds house, and the guest room becomes his second (or primary) room and its VERY good

Jared and Gilf are partnered up for a project and Gilf comes over to Jared’s house to work on it and keeps trying to find excuses to stay later and when Jared asks him about it Gilfoyle says something about Jared’s moms being really nice and his own parents being less nice and Jared says “listen, if you need a place to spend the night I’m sure Gin and Toni would let you stay in the guest room” and Gilf says something about how he doesn’t care and he can tough it out, but Jared talks to his moms and Gin comes to talk to Gilfoyle and says “listen kiddo if you want to spend the night here we’ve got a perfectly good guest room and we have guests like once in a blue moon, you can stay here.”
and Gilfoyle grudgingly agrees to spend the night, and has dinner with Gin and Toni and Jared, which is so weird for him cause he’s never had a proper family dinner where his parents ask him about his life, but here he is with Jared’s moms and Gin is asking him about his favorite bands and telling him about sneaking out to go to concerts as a kid, and Toni’s asking about his favorite subjects in school and offering to put him in touch with someone she knows at MIT. And maybe he borrows some of Jared’s clothes so he’s not going to school in the same clothes the next day, and after school he finds Jared and tentatively asks “hey, can I...spend the night again?”
and eventually he starts moving some of his stuff over to Gin and Toni’s house and they informally adopt him and he and Jared grow up like brothers and it’s GOOD
(and then Jared goes off to college and meets Dinesh at some kind of Vassar-Yale event - Vassar was originally Yale’s sister school so they probably still have events together?? - and when he brings Dinesh home to meet his family Gilf realizes that he Has Feelings for both Jared and Dinesh and they all hook up and YEAH.)
