No, you don't understand. This random cis dude saw people recommending a book, picked it up for himself, and found a short paragraph that made four consecutive claims without proper support or address. The guy decided he was going to do a little research and video about these claims and how they were handwaived away as too complicated.

TWO YEARS LATER he has a five hour video completely dissecting the bad science and bigoted logic behind transphobia, with solid construction, delightful humor, and an ability to deadpan the ridiculous arguments he is picking apart to show how horrible they are.

Like, please. Open this in YouTube, save it to your watch later. Next time you need to do something with your hands that doesn't require full attention, just watch the first 10 minutes. I hope you keep watching after that.

For anyone who hasn't, please watch JasperDasper's video Debunking Transphobia, where he links less than 50 or so people to literally almost the ENTIRE anti-transgender movement of the modern day. It's eye opening that all this hatred in recent years isn't natural at all and has been artificially created by a scant few.

Please, if you have a friend or a relative who doesn't understand. Who has heard things about trans people that you know are anti-trans rhetoric. Send them this. And watch it yourself, its worth it. To some it will be triggering, given the history of anti-trans groups. But please, what jasper has done here is amazing. I'm going to put an excerpt here from the very end. You can read it, but it's much more powerful when you hear him say it.

Transness is still in its infancy. The major problem with this video is, of course, that to debunk the anti-trans talking points, I've had to accept their premise of scientific transphobia and transmedicalism. At least as a leverage. I know. I have tried my best. But I believe that I've shown that there is absolutely, irrefutably no reason to believe them. They hide behind science because it gives them a veil of deniability. And when that's taken away, what's left? Hate and lies and death. Yes, children are being hurt. Of course they are. These are people who sell their soul to harm their neighbor, parents who want to hurt their own children, and researchers who can't accept that their life's work has been a failure. What's more, not only are the anti-trans activists fringe, they are straight up wrong. They try to back up their hate with disinformation and lies, because what else have they got? If they accept that trans people exist and can live a normal, fulfilling life, their whole worldview stops making sense. Their lifelong mission of conversion therapies and pathologization falls apart. Every single argument against trans people made in this video makes no sense, if only trans people continue on living! Then they have nothing! Good. Give them nothing. Live.

FINALLY got around to watching that ‘Debunking Transphobia’ video on YouTube by jasperdasper which I had seen recommended somewhere or other. I might have to go back and rewatch +take notes bc that was, you know, 5 hrs of pretty dense info but honestly the thing that stuck with me most was how good jasperdasper was at not talking about himself while talking about something else.

I'm not exactly sure how to explain what I mean. He did talk about himself sometimes -- his reactions to certain findings, his research process, his own gender identity --- the video wasn't impersonal or just the facts. But there's a certain way some people on the internet have of subtly inserting themselves into non-them-related subjects that he notably did not engage in. When he talked about conversion therapy, abuse, medical discrimination, etc, he showed disgust, but his disgust never took center stage. His handling of darker topics never came off to me as trauma porn, or sensationalized, or anything tailored to entertain a cisgender audience.

Jasperdasper himself is cisgender, but his discussion of trans people/issues/culture was fluid and confident. He spoke like an insider, if that makes sense; he never drew excessive attention to the fact that he wasn't through clumsy or outdated wording. Nor did he heap praise on himself for being such a good ally, or try to distance himself from other cisgender people, or self-deprecate for his cisgender-ness. If he was ever uncomfortable with anatomical/sexual terminology, he didn't show it.

And he never gave a reason, really, for why he did all this research. To my knowledge, trans rights aren't any more of a pressing issue for him than they are for any cis person. He just did it, I guess, because he felt it needed to be done.
