"A himbo is the human version of a golden retriever — beautiful, incredibly well-intentioned, and dumb."
Golden retriever boy who gets into trouble on purpose. Big of heart, dumb of ass. Very protective of those he loves, and has very little sense of self-preservation.
Parents are Sofía and Tomás Rivera. His sister Carmen is four, almost five years older than Javi. His mother is a seamstress and his father a carpenter. They were from the same village as Alma and Pedro, and fled the violence with their group.
At around six years old, he developed an (unnamed, unspecified but drawing inspiration from childhood cancers) sickness that left him gravely ill, the worst period being when he was seven. It was very touch and go and uncertain if he would survive during this period - without Julieta’s gift, he would not have made it.
Due to his illness he grew up very sheltered, with only his sister, and in time Julieta as friends. As Juli’s power grew so did its effects on Javier, and by the time they are about twelve, his illness is generally manageable and not something that greatly affects his day to day life. By the time he is an adult, he is essentially “cured”. Javi is aware that he would not be alive if not for Julieta, so he considers her one of his dearest friends.
Javi grows into a very rambunctious and mischievous teenager (and, if we're being honest, adult), basically deciding to make up for a decade's worth of lost time and shenanigans. He desperately wants to be liked, but he has a tendency to be a little overwhelming - he is loud, brash and definitely has the Too Much Gene, but he has a heart of gold and loyal to a fault.
i really like ur splatoon characters, and i’m curious, do u have game tag mock-ups for any of them?
Game tag mock-ups? Like fake splash tags? Yes, just let me dig them up really quick from my photos.
(Mochi, Slick, Hachikō) These were made before the others, which are random and made at various times. Not everyone has a splashtag at the moment, but maybe one day I’ll finish it up.
(Roxanne, Javier, Gabriel, Lily) Some might be altered in the future, not sure.
If you mean character tags/refs, all oc stuff is tagged with “#oc tag” or “Splatoon oc”, or if you’re looking for specific ones, it’s “[name] oc”.
Hopefully I didn’t greatly misunderstand what you were requesting, lol.
Rambling about how my characters talk for whatever reason
Slick and Mochi are from an entirely different continent than Inkadia, so they have a small accent. Whenever I write dialogue for them, I try and portray it and a bit of unique dialect other characters don’t possess. Mochi and Slick are the only characters that say ain’t, dude, or bro, and certain words like doing have a minor alteration by removing the g, making it doin’. I don’t know what their equivalent of an accent would be in English, because they’re funny squid people speaking gargly squid Japanese gibberish, but it’s not a huge deal.
Hachikō sometimes cannot help adding small comments into his speech when he’s thinking. It’d probably be portrayed either with parentheses or dashes to show breaks in his line of speech. Sometimes he’ll trail off and forget he’s supposed to be talking and just think to himself. When he’s responding to conversations, he doesn’t often remember to make vocalizations of acknowledgement, instead silently nodding and squinting his eyes. Sometimes he turns his head to hear people better, he hopes people won’t think he’s trying to ignore them. Sometimes he makes small “heh” noises between sentences when he’s uncomfortable or trying to seem enthused.
Kieren and Kōri are both pretty soft spoken, but speak in different ways. Kieren has a voice smooth like butter, and his words kinda trickle out like a small stream. He doesn’t raise his voice very often at all, when he does, usually something is very wrong. Kōri speaks very fast, he likes to quickly tell information. He’s excitable and will tell you an entire novel if he’s up for it. He actually slows down a bit when speaking to Kieren, not because he thinks he won’t understand, but rather trying to mimic him subconsciously. Unlike Kieren, Kōri can get pretty loud when he’s genuinely happy. (In a weird way, I think he might talk in a similar way to a friend of mine).
Also the proneness-to-cussing for each character to different. Mochi, Slick, and Javier are probably most prone to cuss. Those three are prone to getting enraged enough to swear their hearts out, especially out of frustration for losing or things not going their way. Least likely to cuss? Quincy and Rio, one’s selectively mute and the other is too shy and polite to allow herself to swear (also not wanting to upset her sister). Raina, despite being prone to irrational amounts of anger, does not swear often at all, instead wanting to have sharp, jabbing insults.
I didn’t like the old version of this so I redrew it lol (drawfee voice: delete your art!)
Javi info dump under the cut for those who care:
Javier Rivera. Youngest son of Sofía and Tomás Rivera. Older sister is Carmen, who is four years older than Javi.
Javi is the same age as the triplets, and they were all part of Alma and Pedro’s group.
His mother is a seamstress and his father a carpenter.
Javi was born sickly, and likely would not have survived childhood if Julieta had not received her gift when she did. Due to this he grew up very sheltered, with only his sister, and in time Julieta as friends. As Juli’s power grew so did its effects on Javier, and by the time they are about twelve, his illness is generally manageable and not something that greatly affects his day to day life. Javier is aware that he likely would not be alive if not for Julieta, so he considers her one of his dearest friends.
He grows into a very rambunctious and mischievous child and young teenager, basically deciding to make up for a decades worth of lost time.
He knows Bruno and Pepa in passing, usually only interacting with them through Julieta. When they are twelve, Julieta starts to encourage a friendship between the boys, thinking that a very outgoing, but kind and friendly personality like Javier would help to bring Bruno out of his shell a little. It takes several months of Javier being very, very persistent, but eventually he wins Bruno over. He encourages Bruno’s own mischievous side, and hijinks ensue.
By the time they are 16, they both have “more than friends” feelings but are too shy and dumb to admit to it, so they pine for about two years before anything happens.
Golden retriever personality. Gets into trouble on purpose. Big of heart, dumb of ass, very protective and has very little sense of self-preservation.
