Hey guys I was thinking of redesigning my splatoon guys!! 😲🤭 I think they were a bit too like the game style 💀, so wanted to try out a cool, sharper style 😊😁 I also think their palettes were a bit too… 💁, so I made them a bit more cohesive and warm 🤭🤭🤭 Tell me what you think 😘💕☺️

Old Splatoon art dump (1)

A barrage of old art I think is important to characterize my little fellows the tumblr audience missed out on. I feel like some of these are kinda essential to show character dynamics, despite their crudeness. Some drawings have more effort than others, but that’s just how it is, not because of laziness, but rather just scribbling things down without too much conscious effort. Some of these were also drawn during high school, in the middle of class, to pass time. (I think most of this is from 2021-2022)

I’m proposing that people try out making their xenolings have crescent pupils. It’s not a demand, I just wonder if anybody else would think it’s neat. A lot of xeno inklings have horizontal pupils, and that’s all personal preference, so I won’t bash it. However, actual squid eyes actually have round or crescent-shaped pupils, and I haven’t seen anyone but myself make a xenoling with that shape.

It’s just a thought I’ve had awhile. Like I’d said, I’m not bashing people for their preferences, not at all, people are free to do what they want. I just like excuses to tell fun facts at the end of the day. Maybe I can inspire someone to try out something new.

Slick is the only example at the moment, but maybe I should try it try on some other folks. The art’s old.

what is the town that Mochi and Slick are from like?

Whilst I never decided on an exact, precise location of where it would be, but I imagined the size and climate of it. Just for a vague idea, I’m assuming they’d be somewhere on this bit of peninsula.

Arrecife (arr-ah-see-fay) is a small suburban town plopped somewhere in the desert scrubs. It’s small enough for basically anyone to know each other but large enough to have people traveling stop by for a short bit of time. It’s not super exciting, but people pass through it while on long trips to the larger cities dotted around it. Lots is mom-and-pop shops, but also larger franchises sprinkled everywhere.

Weather is quite unpleasant, but that’s probably why the housing is cheap. It’s hot, humid, and devoid of rain, however that doesn’t stop the children from playing outside. Everyone from the area has some form of tan, just because of the sheer amount of sun. Winter brings more pleasant weather, sometimes rain. Slick and Mochi were surprised by how much cooler Inkadia was in comparison, let alone how it actually rained and snowed. Sometimes the two joke about people from outside Arrecife would think it’s a fire pit, but it just means the two are comfortable while everyone else is dying from the heat. Old, sloppy art:

Who uses their swim form most outside of turf/salmon run/anarchy?

Probably Mochi, she uses it often to slip into places and try and reach things. She likes to get up to mischief, and no non-fluid-proof object will stand in her way. Sometimes it’s for things as simple as dropping something behind her bed and fishing it out, though. Other times she’s just wanting to lie on the floor and squids in the process.

Hachikō can morph into swim form by accident by getting spooked. Playing turf probably made him more prone to out of habit. Other times he finds little hidey holes and just sits there as an octopus. In that regard, his ancestry shines through a little.

Slick usually stays out of swim form unless he needs to get somewhere. He wants to show off his cool, iconic, slicked-back hair, and whatever else he’s wearing at the time. Fun fact, he owns one of those “mating-lures” seen in the art book, but it’s very poorly made. It doesn’t matter, he thinks it’s cool and will get attention (it doesn’t).
