my headcanon is that besides the obvious personality parallels between bruce and jason (a bleeding heart, sacrificial tendencies, the utmost devotion to gotham) jay is also very similar to bruce in terms of mannerisms and some ways in which he approaches the cases etc. like. despite it being often underwritten for the sake of sensationalist plotlines and comedic effect, jay is not a type to randomly enter the situation and blow things up. i imagine (what is supported by some canon) he has backup plans spanning through all the letters of the alphabet. he gets on cases that require months of undercover work and systematic dismantling of criminal organisations. on a lighter note, i also think his habitual gestures are similar to bruce’s and he doesn’t even notice. they could be standing next to each other, both in the same position, using the same body language. they probably make the same face when they’re disappointed or confused. don’t tell him that though, he will be annoyed.
