Character: Jay Singletary

Representation: PTSD, Drug addiction
Their Importance: Jay is a veteran of the Korean War and he’s seen some very dark stuff. He’s probably the first character with PTSD on screen that modern day vets can relate to. He uses coke and sometimes alcohol to keep his PTSD at bay so his reputation as a reporter has been ruined because of badly his mind is messed up. His flashbacks are told in this almost surreal style that’s really scary
Issues: This is not an issue with the representation as it is the show, because it’s really dark and gory.

Whump list - I am the night (2019)
Jay Singletary portrayed by Chris Pine 1x01 Briefly being chased, takes drugs, panting, burns his fingers on a lighter, manhandled, handcuffed and beaten, slammed on the hood of car, pistol whipped, gunpoint, bloody nose and black eye. 1x02 Bruises from previous episode, takes drugs. 1x03 Manhandled, threatened with police club at throat, arrested and handcuffed. Interrogated and threatened with an pencil to his eye, kicked. War trauma, starts a fight and takes drugs. 1x04 Fought, gets punched, heavy breathing and bleeding from mouth. 1x05 Chased with a knife, short fight, night terrors from war, gets emotional. Lured into trap, under gunpoint, arrested and handcuffed. 1x06 Handcuffed to prison bars. Punched several times, grunting, kneeling and hair-pulled. Nosebleed, bloody face, manhandled and heavy panting. Interrogated, punched in stomach and coughing. Car crash with minor injuries. This is the only season we’ll get, sadly. I really recommend this series for anyone who haven’t seen it, the whump is soooo good! The list is made by me and I’ll gladly take recommendations on other whump shows/series🗣
