 The amount of improvement you can book by transcribing guitar solos or Jazz Solos and learning to play them is quite amazing. In this video, I am going to talk about how you can use the solos you transcribe to improve your Phrasing, Learn New Vocabulary, Connect your phrases and add a better build up to your solo.

Making your own transcriptions is a huge part of learning jazz, but often it is not so much about writing down the solo and a lot more about playing them and figuring them out by ear!

Jazz Improvisation Lesson One

Here's a free lesson¹ in jazz improvisation for you, especially those who insist they cannot; they mean to say they haven't, likely because someone threw Coltrane at them, which is like saying you can learn German reading Goethe. This is not to say Pops playing is easy, it still ain't even with college training! No, it's not his playing here … it's the way Pops sings.

Bing Crosby said of Armstrong vocals, "On a happy tune he makes you happy, on a sad song he makes you cry, you can't do better than that!"

Pops sings as he plays, he pioneered that style, but the poetry and feel behind the rhythm of the words slows it down so we can follow what he's doing with all these dimensions of that song.
