Summary

Ruby admires the way that Oscar has answered The Call. Ruby chose to do a lot of the same things that Oscar has, but the difference is that Ruby chose to be here (and has since she was young); meanwhile, Oscar didn't choose to be here, but has stepped up to the plate because it's the right thing to do.

Oscar is the type of person who may not agree with something, but go along with it anyway because the rest of the group thinks it's the right thing to do, and Ruby could benefit from learning that from Oscar rather than insisting on her way.

Hey, Miles here. Got a Cameo request for from Logan. It's a very, very long one [laughs], but it all kind of boils down to, in RWBY, it's clear that Oscar has a lot of admiration for Ruby, and respects her a lot, and learns a lot of stuff from her, and incorporates some of her traits into how he carries himself. And the question is: if Ruby were to do the same to Oscar, what kind of traits and inspiration would she take from him?

Now, before I say anything, obviously, none of anything I'm about to say is canon. This is just my own personal opinion on the situation that has been prompted in this question. There we go, legal text. Nothing I say here is gonna affect anything that actually happens in the show or whatever. But I think this is a really fun one.

You know, if Ruby were to take a look at Oscar Pine and be like, "Man, what can I take away from that kid? What can I learn from this guy that's great, in his own quirky Oscar Pine way?" What would it be? I thought about this for, like, a hot minute, and ultimately I think the main thing I came to was Oscar's, um... the way in which that he has answered the call.

And what I mean by that is Oscar, you know, always dreamed about, like, oh, hero stuff, books, getting away from this boring farm, and stuff. But never actively sought it out. It was like a daydream, it was a wish, a fantasy. And it wasn't until an ancient wizard's soul appeared in his heart where he really didn't have a huge choice. I mean he did, but this dude showed up and was like, "Hey man [knocks on desk], opportunity's knocking, you need to do this stuff or bad stuff's gonna happen. And I know you're not ready, and I know you're scared, and I know you've never done anything like this, and I know that it's all gonna hurt, but I really need you." And Oscar went, "Okay." And sure, maybe he didn't know exactly what he was getting into—I mean how could you?—but he never turned back.

And what I think is an interesting difference between Oscar and Ruby, is that Ruby has done a lot of these things. She's gone to harrowing places, she's put her life on the line, she's sacrificed so, so much. But she chose to do that, she's always wanted to do that, it's been something that was a part of her life plan since she was very young. It was what she wanted to do and be. And now, she finds herself fighting alongside someone younger than her, who never really wanted to be here, but has shown up anyway because he knows it's the right thing to do. And that's something that she hasn't really experienced.

And I think moving forward, Ruby would really have to consider—more often than not—rather than always being the one to, like, "This is my idea, this is what I think we should do, I'm the leader," but really pausing and considering things that maybe she doesn't want to do. Maybe somebody has a plan that she doesn't agree with but everyone else is like, "We think this is the only way." And her having to not be like, "I'm shounen anime hero, I think I need to do it this way," but being like, "Well okay, we're gonna... we'll give it a shot. We'll give it a shot because you all seem to think this might be the right thing to do, and I think I can see that it is probably the right thing to do, even if personally for me I don't like it." I think that would be a huge thing that she would take that she would want to learn from Oscar and learn to try and do herself. 

Um, yeah, I think that's the biggest one. Runtime's always been tough, but I've always wanted to see those two interact more. And hey, if we #GREENLIGHTVOLUME10, maybe we'll get that chance. That would be really, really swell. [electronic watch beeps] See, even my dumb electronic watch is saying that would be cool.
