The book in today's first photo above is my #CurrentRead: Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews! 😄❤ . . . . This book, shown with my fading bruise, is story 5.5 in the Kate Daniels series. I'm hoping to finish it tonight, so that tomorrow I can hopefully start Magic Rises, book 6, for Emojiathon. 😊❤ . . . . I'm sorry that I forgot to share a view of my bruise yesterday. It's now been 13 days since the blood was drawn and all that's left is that my skin is just a shade or two darker than normal. Each book introduces us to various myths and fairytale beings from around the world, and Magic Slays, book five, has Baba Yaga and the Nightingale Bandit in it! 😄😍❤ . . . . I really love Magic Slays. Today's September 23rd task for #jcfseptember is to share something for #SockSunday. Right now it is 88°F and sunny with zero clouds in sight, so it's much too hot for socks. But Max very kindly allowed me to lay the socks on his feet! 😍❤😍 . . . . Shown with Max and the socks is today's book. I'm still reading Half-Resurrection Blues by Daniel José Older. I'm now on page 81, about to start Chapter 14. The story still hasn't picked up for me, but things ARE moving, so I'll hope to start enjoying it soon. Because if I don't... Today's September 22nd task for #jcfseptember is to share #BrightColours. Have you seen the covers of Giant Days, Volumes One through Four? Volumes One, Two, and Four are especially bright. And Volume Three, with Giant Days written in bright yellow... 😊😍❤ . . . . Unfortunately, while I love these covers, I'm not sure I want to read more of the volumes. I finished Giant Days, Vol. One, at around 10:55a this morning (45 minutes ago), and it was good, but I think the only thing I really enjoyed about it was the art. 😕 . . . . I think I'll give Volume One three stars. Two "it was okay" stars for the story/stories plus a star for the art. Because Goodreads' "three-star I liked it" rating fits how I felt about this book. ⭐⭐⭐ . . . . The reason for my two-star story rating. . . I just didn't find much to admire in Daisy, Esther, or Susan. I didn't connect to any of them. And then the stories seemed kind of like watching a soap opera, especially with all of the drama happening in the stories. But really, the one thing I just don't think I can forgive is Daisy's drug use. Sure, she just took three pills, but I have NEVER understood people who take drugs to get high. 😕 . . . . I love hazelnut coffee! I have this hazelnut creamer that I add to my instant coffee and it is delicious. Look at the book sleeve that my little sister made me! Isn’t it adorable? I am going to get her to teach me how to make them. . Today I am finishing up my homework, running some errands and then getting ready to head to Word on the Street in Toronto tomorrow. Photo Three shares the book I'm reading today with the book I read yesterday. I finished Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews, book five in the Kate Daniels series, last night (September 20th) at 11:20p. 😊😍❤ . . . . Also in Photo Three is the latest view of my bruise, now 216 hours old. The clear spot in the middle is growing and the surrounding bruise is yellowing and fading at last. 😊🎉❤ . . . . And lastly, Photo Four was taken last night, after I finished Magic Slays at 11:20p. I finished it in the living room with my Max asleep near me. 😊😍❤😍 . . . . Magic Slays gets five stars from me and I'm expecting Magic Triumphs to be a five-star read, too! Today's September 20th task for #jcfseptember is to share a #UniqueCharacter. I finished Magic Dreams by Ilona Andrews in the Hexed anthology over an hour ago, at just after 11:05p on September 19th. I love this story because it features Dali, a UNIQUE white tiger who is a vegetarian and throws up at the sight of blood. She's also VERY klutzy, and experiences short-term memory loss every time she shifts into her tiger self. Plus, as if all of the above is not enough, she's a cross-eyed tiger when she first shifts. 😄😉😍❤ . . . . I also love Jim in this story. He's a werejaguar and Alpha of the Cat Clan. 😍❤ . . . . And the villain in this story is pretty unique, too. She's a Jorõgumo (also known as a whore spider *shudder*). When she appears in this story, I switch my hands so that they're holding the book by the margins. I absolutely, positively refuse to touch the text when it includes huge spiders. No sirree Bob, no touchee for me. 😨😨😨😨😨 . . . . As it's now 12:33a on September 20th, I'm going to try for sleep. Because Magic Slays, Kate Daniels Book Five, is next and it's one of my top two favorite books in this series. If I start it now, I might have to read it through its end. That wouldn't be so bad, except that I have to take Max to the vet "tomorrow" [later today] so I need sleep. Please say a prayer or make a wish for me. I'd like to sleep withOUT having one of my "phantom spider" nightmares. 😕 . . . .
