Imagine Finn figuring out the Force and using it to send flowers drifting over to Rey, because he remembers her Awe over the green planet.

Imagine him teasing Poe with his tools for the X-wing, keeping a wrench just out of Poe’s line if sight, laughing when Poe figures it out.

Imagine Finn feeling connected, to all things, and going back to talk to Maz about it. He’d never belonged before, but now he belongs so much. So much, to everything, and now it makes sense.

Imagine Rey and Poe catching him, alone in their room, reciting the names of other Force sensitive people who chose not to be Jedi. Who decided they could be peace makers and teachers and scholars and… Finn thought he only had one road, all his life. But suddenly he’s here and there’s this thing he can do and there’s these people who love him and call him a name and not a number. And he loves them.

Just imagine Finn being able to feel and use and call on the Force, and how much that would change things for him. And Rey and Poe would be there all the way for him.

it happens when you’ve been flying extraorbital a long time since you were very young. eventually your blood/temp will get so hot that your brain dies

starfighters who have it are essentially grounded once people/your employers know you have it. there’s no cure, only the hadeira serums to treat it

poe is devastated by the news 

grounded? 

his heart shatters

he refuses. keeping it hidden as long as possible. limited check-ups

leia learns about it. she revokes all of his security codes and military passes. and even then. the two people he loves most - finn and rey learn about it

finn insists that poe listens to his doctors. sometimes they argue so loudly.

rey badly does not want to lose poe. her fear of abandonment rises. she understands that this is what poe loves but he cannot die for this

she does not argue with him as adamently about it like finn does but her conflict/suffering is internalized

eventually she would

poe doesnt talk to either of them and he knows he's acting childish

he knows they love him and dont want to see him DIE and poe doesnt want to die either but this has been his LIFE

poe has always expected to die while piloting and he always made peace with that, but.... this time it's just something he's doing to himself

also poe is not WAITING to die. he refuses to do that like it's a ticking chrono inside him ready to set off a bomb inside his blood and kill his brain

if piloting is how he is going out, then that's how he is going out. and poe thinks he will stick to that

but. but that puts such a HUGE wedge between him and his partners and either poe is grounded and has his relationship or poe escapes the rebellion and finds a way to keep flying and breaks it off with finn and rey

poe decides to leave and works with han IN THAT JOB HE HAD WITH THE INTER-GALAXY RACING / MANAGING JOB

han knows poe's condition and when poe explains how much he cant give up being a starfighter and that he cannot give that up, han respects his wishes

but eventually han is like 'rey is my niece and im not speaking like an uncle on her behalf here, but you already know bloodburn is gonna kill you eventually... so why are you looking to die right this instant?'

poe doesnt really have an answer and han is like 'if i had gotten bloodburn at your age, i would be doing the same thing but it's stupid because you got people who love you and since you are so fixed on dying anyway, you should be spending those years you are still alive with them.'

but han cant tell him what to DO with his life

poe thinks that over and comes home. works on the base as someone who gives orders to pilots and as someone in communications. he can fly extraorbital only during emergencies

he takes the medical serum to suppress the disease

it keeps him alive for a long while actually

a couple years go by and rey's getting close to be a jedi master and finn's still working for rebellion. incidentally, rey gets pregnant and mostly remains home during her later terms and finn comes home to them.

but also around this time, leia calls up poe and is like 'this is strictly voluntary but there are some specialists who want to see you and discuss a treatment' and it's experimental and there's no guarantee what's gonna happen. 

poe could get worse and this time he looks to rey and finn for their opinion and they're like 'this is your body, this is your decision. we love you no matter what happens' and poe just needed to hear that. hes scared of something going wrong and not being around when rey has the baby. never knowing their child

but he tries this experimental treatment anyway and they tell them he wont be sure if hes cured immediately

they would need to put his body under strain and A LOT of it

it's basically sink or swim time

turns out, poe doesn’t realize he’s cured until it’s three years later, and his symptoms no longer exist, and slowly, ever so slowly, he’s a pilot again

It’s Just a Game of Quidditch

Summary: It’s the last Quidditch match of the year with Ravenclaw versus Slytherin. Poe is enjoying his last match at Hogwarts when it all takes a turn for the worst when Rey is injured. Thankfully Finn is there for the both of them.
