Jeff Suppan Hates the Brewers
In 2010, before being mercifully set free, Jeff Suppan went 0-2 with a 7.84 ERA in 31 innings for the Brewers. He would then join the St. Louis Cardinals and, in 70.1 innings, post a 3.84 ERA despite striking out only 33 men.
Last year, Jeff Suppan did not reach the Major Leagues, spending the full year in AAA.
But with the Padres set to face the Brewers last night, they had one choice: call on eff Suppan. You know, despite his having allowed 9 runs in 6.2 AAA innings this year.
Naturally, Suppan threw five shutout innings to earn his first win since October 3, 2010. That's like an Outlaw Josey Wales kind of focus on vengeance.

Last night it was the bloggers/fans going on about whether eating Zito's contract is a good idea. I facepalmed some, babbled a bit, and went to bed.
I get up this morning and now a bunch of the legit beat writers and commentators are starting the same conversation up again.
Just... I don't even. Please can we stop talking about this? We're not going to pay Zito and then not have Zito pitch. In no way would it be a good idea to both be paying the sacks and sacks of gold that are owed to Zeets AND have to watch Suppan as the #5. That's it. No more discussion necessary.

Reports are surfacing that the Giants are close to signing Jeff Suppan to a minor league deal. Suppan was the punchline to plenty of jokes from 2008 through the first half of 2010, but once Suppan arrived in St. Louis, Dave Duncan waved his magic wand and all was right again. Somehow Suppan found a way to go 3-6 with a 3.84 ERA despite giving up more than a hit per inning, and barely striking out more than he walked.
Either Dave Duncan possesses stunning control of telekinesis and Suppan will quickly return to the 5.00+ ERA machine without his help, or Suppan has discovered the secret to giving up lots of hits, but stranding every baserunner.
