Prince's Trust - 1987
yes, yes, yes… this is not George, but his little copy of ✨his son✨
The Adventures of Beatle George #41
Back in the day, syndicated radio shows were often provided to stations on vinyl. This is a 1986 episode of the Westwood One Superstar Concert Series, featuring an all-star charity show held in the UK for the Prince’s Trust. Over the course of three LPs, you hear an amazing lineup of Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Midge Ure, Jeff Lynne, Ben E. King and Dave Edmunds, each half-assing their way through their hits while backed by everyone else, who all clearly learned the songs that afternoon. It’s not a train wreck, but it doesn’t contain an ounce of excitement either; the entire thing is unbelievably forgettable.

Hot music takes that I will never change my mind on
- A Ghost Is Born is better than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but not as good as Summerteeth - Turn On The Bright Lights is better than any album The Strokes have released - The album version of Let It Be is far superior to the single version - Phil Spector’s production on All Things Must Pass elevates it slightly above Ram as the best Beatles solo album - Imagine is barely an above average album - Mark Kozelek is simultaneously the best AND worst lyricist of the last 30 years - Sea Change and Ghosts of the Great Highway are the two best folk rock albums of the last 40 years - Coldplay’s first 3 albums are some of the best pop-rock ever released - The Wall isn’t a good album - Every single Beatles album is let down by at least one bad/average song EXCEPT for Abbey Road - Tigermilk is far superior to If You’re Feeling Sinister - Arcade Fire’s true artistic peak was The Suburbs, which remains a top 5 album all-time - For a period of about 6 years Grandaddy was one of the best 3 bands in the world - Jeff Lynne’s songwriting with Electric Light Orchestra from 1974-1981 is possibly the best album run of any musician or group ever, only rivalled by Elliott Smith (1997-2004), Radiohead (1995-2007), The Beatles (1965-1969), Wilco (1996-2004) and Sufjan Stevens (2003-2015).
