chat guess who finally setup audiobookshelf?
Okay, one thing I will evangelize is a free home media server with a samba share: Jellyfin
I digitized my DVDs and they're on the server, I can watch them like Netflix even when Internet goes out
I buy my music so I have it on the server to stream and backup
I use a samba share so I just drag and drop those files whenever I want
It only uses the Internet to update Jellyfin and download stuff like actor information and movie pictures
Now it has 5TB of storage used of 8TB and I only have to pay for the electricity to run it which is miniscule since it's a hard drive enclosure and a raspberry pi. Internet could be down for a year and I'd lose none of my media. I love this project and suggest anyone with a working computer (64 bit x86 or ARM cpu) make use of their old hardware for saving their media in a reliable way that also looks good on Android, Roku, iOS, TV apps, and desktop OSes that access it
There is another internet hiding beneath the one most people use every day: an internet of protocols, servers, personal websites, open-sourc
hey just a tip. if you want a streaming service-like set up for your ("legally acquired") media, DON'T use jellyfin to host it. And ESPECIALLY don't use it with kodi to have more power to theme and change the feel of it. I would hate it if you did that. That would be terrible. Wink Wonk.
I LOVE SELFHOSTING.
I HATE BEING RELIENT ON BIG CORPORATIONS IN ORDER TO RUN MY LIFE ONLY FOR THEM TO STEAL AND SELL MY DATA.
Just a few cool programs I use!!!
Glance - A really good but imo tedious dashboard to set up, it is worth the work though when it's all done, I just recommend snb connecting to your server and using a coding software to edit the configuration rather than what I did 😭😭😭
Jellyfin - Self-hosted Netflix Alternative
Immich - Self-hosted Google Images Alternative
Qbittorrent - Torrent Downlader for my Arr Stack (Search it up if your curious :3)
AudioBookShelf - Audio Book/Podcast Player for your downloaded audio books and podcasts
I need to get more and if someone has a recommendation please drop it below I'd be so cool and so poggers to hear about more programs to run!!!
I’m such a freak, I spend half of my time at school today mindlessly reading through jellyfin documentation to figure out how to play it on my phone and make it accessible when I’m not at home. I am in fact not an internet networking girl so I didnt understand any of it but at least I fixed my problem. I think I need a hobby…
