JERONICA WEEK DAY 3 | March 9th — Noir Detective AU
A MODERN DAY PYGMALION
After getting broken up with by his girlfriend for his best friend, Jughead Jones can't think of anything better then spending his summer interning as a night guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If only the mysterious girl with the too dark hair and all knowing eyes would stop breaking into the museum during his shifts everything would be perfect--because she is just breaking in, right?

What he hadn't expected on his second trip to Pop's diner in as many days -the burgers were that delicious after all- was the girl that he had spent all of his lunch period at his first day of Riverdale High pretending he wasn't staring at while he sat with Betty and Archie, the overachieving athlete and the boy next door. She sat in a back corner of the restaurant, her luscious dark hair juxtaposed against a thin golden headband in the shape of a crown that sat just above her hairline, the ends of the golden band braided in as she worked away at something on her computer. Passively, as he pocketed his car keys, he wondered if the headband went all the way around her head or if it was just a delicate-looking headband she had strategically styled; he had seen weirder back in the city, for sure.
“It's rude to stare,” she finally murmured from her seat a few feet away, not looking up from her computer screen as she aggressively slapped at the keys on the base.
“Forgive me.” He wandered over to plop down on the other side of the booth, neglecting to ask permission before making himself comfortable. “I couldn't help it.”

Jeronica Week. Day 3: Terror Tales: Haunting!AU
● In September 1889, Forsythe Pendleton Jones III and Veronica Jones (née Lodge), were a newlywed couple who recently inherited Pembrooke Manor, a dilapidated, supposedly haunted mansion on a large piece of property in rural upstate New York. Shortly after moving in the couple was distressed by a number of peculiar occurrences and paranormal sightings. The facts of which were never clear-cut or authenticated.
After several months of little to no contact, the Joneses’ closest friends, Archibald and Elizabeth Andrews decided to call on them. As their carriage drew closer to the Manor the young couple began to smell smoke. Reaching the house, they found it ablaze.
An entry from Elizabeth Andrews journal after the incident recounts that she thought she heard screaming coming from inside the house. But, Forsythe and Veronica were found standing on the front lawn watching the fire. Both covered in blood and ashes. Neither was forthcoming about the events that led up to the destruction of the Manor.
Archibald Andrews makes mention in a letter to his parents that Forsythe was injured with four deep scratches down one side of his face and a broken arm. Veronica, also injured, had rope burns around her wrists and neck.
Another journal entry of Elizabeth’s states that the couple eventually revealed what happened to them in Pembrooke Manor, but the details were: “too horrible to be written down.” No other reference to the alleged haunting appears in either Archibald or Elizabeth Andrews journals or correspondence after that.
The only statement made about that time by Veronica Jones was found in a small notebook hidden under the floorboards of the next house the couple owned. About those early days of her marriage, she wrote:
“It tested our relationship and tried our sanity. Never before or since have I faced more fear. Terror in its purest form. But, never had I been so in love either. My blood was on fire with both. Eventually, the love burned away the fear.”
Forsythe Jones is supposed by some, to have written down the harrowing story in its entirety. Though no proof of that claim has ever been found to date.
The Joneses’ retained ownership of the estate but never again set foot on the land themselves. Although reportedly they had a priest walk the property line every year and consecrate the ground.
The secrecy and speculation surrounding the burning of Pembrooke Manor make it one of the most famous haunted houses of American history. The property is still in the Jones family and is currently closed to the public.
