Art from Judge Colt 3 and 4, 1970. art by Jose Delbo, written by Jerry Bails.
Judge Mark Colt was a short-lived but notable character, one of the first of the many morally ambiguous and actively bloody comic book main characters that would start to appear in the 80s.

Yes, now that you've recced it to me
No

Summary:
Alter Ego #1 here, a real collectors item and dated in 1961. The birth of comic fandom in the silver age. Interestingly Jerry Bails credits himself as the creator of the Silver Age Atom. 'I suggested the idea in a letter to Gardner Fox dated August 29 1960 ... ' He clearly was in touch with people at DC because he has information on 'Flash of two worlds' before the story was published. No mention of Marvel, FF#1 wasn't due till November 61. But for me its an interesting perspective to remember that DC already had published 'Flash of two worlds' and had a Secret Origins volume out.

Submitter's comment:
I cannot BELIEVE what I found. This is Roy Thomas's speculation from 1961 of how The Spectre could be reintroduced to comics-- remember, at this point that the Hal Jordan Green Lantern was only two years old and Hawkman hadn't been reinvented yet. Spectre wouldn't come back to comics until another 5 years after this was published in Alter Ego #1. You may, of course, recognize Roy Thomas's name from his various works in comics such as Avengers, or at DC All-Star Squadron. This was published before Roy "The Boy" Thomas had started to work in comics at all, making it a true "fan" fiction. It's also wild to me how bare bones this fic is, knowing Thomas's later writing style. (Roy Thomas is the reason there's a limit to how many words can be in one speech bubble). This is a WILD find. The rest of the zine is an interesting read too! The fic starts on page 10 of the zine. It is finished in Alter Ego #2 on page 35. (Link: https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=11985)

BHOC: DOOM PATROL #101
When I was a kid, my grandparents would come to our house practically every Saturday. They lived just about an hour away and were close with my mother, so they’d make the drive and arrive, donuts in hand, for whatever the family wound up doing that weekend day. You could make our family dog at the time go absolutely crazy excited just by saying “Grandma’s coming!” to him, a fact that we kids…

WC: HAWKMAN #2
When it came to the organized comic book fandom of the early Silver Age of Comics, there was no character that hardcore audience was more behind than Hawkman. The Winged Wonder had been a favorite of both Dr. Jerry Bails and Roy Thomas during their youth decades earlier as part of the Justice Society of America, and a revival was something that both championed in the pages of the fanzine…

BHOC: ALL-STAR COMICS #70
BHOC: ALL-STAR COMICS #70
This wound up being the last issue of ALL-STAR COMICS from this original run that i was able to find, which is a shame, as i was a great fan of the series. But during this period, DC’s distribution seemed to start having difficulty, at least in my area, and finding the books featuring the less popular characters became a challenge. In most cases, my local 7-11 never bothered with new launches, so…

Spotlight on the Comic Reader
Join us as we look at two issues of the Comic Reader that sell very well on the secondary market.
.
The Comic Reader was a fanzine launched in 1961 by Jerry Bails. Early issues of this fanzine can sell for $30 to $50 in high grade but there are other issues that sell well on the secondary market. The Comic Reader has been regarded as the “first” comics industry news fanzine – including interviews, art pin-ups and previews of both Marvel and DC titles. While some issues sell well because of…
