In the year 2023, a police officer lost his arm and had it replaced by a computerized cybernetic one. The limb was designed to seek out wickedness. The cop ended up being so corrupted in his search for vegence that the hand eventually ended up strangling him. From Superboy (vol. 1) #203 (August, 1974), the infamous editorial announcing that Dave Cockrum had left the title (and DC entirely) and been replaced by Mike Grell.

The editorial was most likely written by editor Murray Boltinoff, whose refusal to return original artwork to Cockrum was the impetus for the artist's departure. Boltinoff was infamous for his stubbornness and dislike of working with "new kids" in the industry.
