(REPOST BCUZ TUMBLR PUT THE IMAGES IN THE WRONG ORDER ON THE OTHER ONE! Please delete the old one if you reblogged it, thanks!)
Lady Petunia scares him because she's head over heels for him, convinced he's secretly in love with her too, and won't catch a hint. He can't be any more straightforward because there are still Limits to what he can say to nobles, but boy howdy is he worried her folks will catch on, blame him, and get him in trouble.
"IT WON'T WORK OUT, OUR STATUSES-"
"Oh, but secret rendezvous are so romantic, aren't they? It's okay! I'll still visit you, even when I'm married~!"
So anyway I'm thinking of making her one of the sages! >:)
Yes, that's a possible Zelda design. I just made it up as I went bcuz I needed Something and I kinda like it tbh so it might stick. We'll see!
Anyway just know that she is in fact dying inside in two ways: the first being oh my goodness what an embarrassing loser why is he posing like that it's so stupid, and the second being ugh I wanna kiss his stupid little pretty face until he can't breathe how dare he look at me like that does he even realize what that does to me-
I wanna know more about your jester au. Anything you want me to ask about for it?
I so badly wanna say "what happened to queen's husband" but I still haven't finished the drabble about that 🫠
Hmm
Ykw I did have a thought today about post adventure stuff
So I'll pretend you asked me what their relationship is after the adventure ends
To which my response is that they eventually get married! And there's quite a few nobles who are upset about that, especially when Link continues to play jester.
"Aren't you the king?"
Link, actively juggling: "Who, me? I'm just the queen's husband."
Like yeah nah the ruling stuff, the big roles, all that stuff is up to his wife. She makes decisions, he supports and does whatever he can to help, but he's certainly not going to take charge of anything unless she wants him to. And she's perfectly happy letting him continue to be the silly man he is. She loves her silly man <3
Had the funny thought of like, what if Queen had a cat when she was younger that had a bell on its collar
And so when she hears Jester jingling about in the distance and she calls him, the jingling gets faster and progressively louder, and it just reminds her of when she'd call for her cat and it could come running
heyyy got anything about your jester link or Zelda or the au in general you wanna talk about?
What were Link’s and Zelda’s first impressions of one another?
their opinions on Hylia/other deities?
do either have any family that effects their story in any way?
Oooh, excellent questions >:0
Link's first impression: Wow she looks so serious. And bored. At her own party?? Nahh, this HAS to change. (Followed shortly by oh, she has an unexpectedly fantastic laugh for someone who looked so stiff! I gotta coax more of that out of her while I've got the chance.)
Zelda: This is so ridiculous. I don't need this. I'm not a child. He looks ridiculous. He's acting ridiculous. (Followed shortly by oh, I have never seen anyone humiliate that guy so beautifully... Maybe this party isn't so bad after all... I wonder... Can I keep him? 🤔)
Link's opinions on deities: Hmm.. I don't think Link has put a whole lot of thought into it. Any references he makes to them is generally purely for the idiom or phrase or joke rather than actually any sort of religious care. None of that really matters to him! Maybe that changes when he gets wrapped up in the whole hero thing. I think he doesn't care about them (not in a negative way, just a neutral way) because he doesn't exactly see them getting involved so if they exist, does it really matter? Makes no difference to him! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At least that's how I see it for now. Subject to change since there's a lot I haven't figured out yet lol
Zelda's opinion on deities: This could go either way. Either she's a little bitter, or coldly neutral. I'm not sure yet. Depends on a lot of story aspects I haven't decided on.
Zelda's family: She's the sole ruler atm and has no family anymore. She did have I think both parents when Link first met her and was hired on as her personal jester, so I'm thinking something must have happened during the war, or maybe before the war? Maybe whatever happened started the war... Not sure yet, but she was definitely handling things on her own during the war at some point onwards, if not earlier.
Link's family: I don't picture him with any family. I can't see him with any attachments until Zelda, tbh, which makes me wonder if he was just an orphan or something. Made money performing on the streets and now has it pretty good. Gets paid well, probably has some land now that he doesn't even live on at all bcuz he's always at the castle haha
Boots' Zelda: She the kind of girl who looks sly and smug whether she's holding a good hand or a bad hand. You're about to pull a card from her hands and she's suddenly staring you dead in the eyes with the most intense, unreadable expression and you have no idea if the card you're going to pick is good or bad. That is to say, she's a total wild card and you cannot expect to tell if she's cheating or not just by looking at her. Boots has sworn up and down she must have cheated but cannot find any evidence while she just laughs about it. But the look on her face!!! And the move she just made!!!! Surely!! She cheated or something!!!
Crown: Bad 😔 she can put on a face and fib in social situations but fsr when it comes to games, it's harder. She'll start acting too nonchalant all of a sudden. She'll get indignant if she's accused of cheating regardless of whether or not it's true, but she'll flush just a bit if it IS true.
Love: She would never cheat at a game unless forced to, and then she'd look like a nervous wreck start to finish. She's not good at lying! She's not good at playing it cool!
Queen: Poker face to beat all poker faces. Cannot even tell you how many times a conversation has ended and, once out of earshot, Jester is like Did you mean that???? and she's just like No absolutely not. He really couldn't tell. It's scary tbh, and, were she to play any games where cheating is possible, would translate right over.
What is their favorite PG swear word replacement? (ex: “frick” instead of “fuck”
8. Do they make faces at babies they see in public? Are the babies enchanted or horrified?
Your character confidently turns to the audience and says, “Hey, check this out.” What are they about to fumble, and how badly
89: Why are they like this? Wrong answers only.
Queen:
On a scale of “tiny kitten” to “middle-aged dad” how loud are their sneezes
31. Which holiday would they abolish?
35. What’s their preferred excuse for not attending an event?
Do they steal fries?
And this is more an optional extra I found interesting. Apply it to anyone you want.
91: Two of your WIPs are having a crossover (if you don’t have two, pick a random piece of media you like, or someone else’s WIP!). Which characters are getting along the best? Worst?
I'm putting this under a cut immediately because I KNOW how much I can yap. Ain't no way this won't be long LOL
For Jester
What is their favorite PG swear word replacement?
He's got some more casual go-tos (shoot, rats, darn, etc), some slightly sillier sounding ones for when he's around certain company (fiddlesticks, biscuits, zooks, fish tail, etc), and if he's around a lot/certain people or sometimes just when he's in A Mood (tbh these are actually more likely the madder he is), he just spouts stuff. Whatever comes to mind comes out his mouth. "Jumping frogs in a shook up jar!" "Rattin' smackin' pies in the sky!" "For the sake of Din's underpants and the overclothes too!" Just. Whatever. Sometimes this means a series of unintelligible noises. You know those old cartoons where that tough guy would start muttering sounds that kinda rhymed but also were not really words while storming around? That sort of vibe.
Do they make faces at babies they see in public? Are the babies enchanted or horrified?
You betcha he does! His go to is just sticking out his tongue while shaking his head back and forth because, if he's got his hat on, they LOVE the jingles. Most babies enjoy him quite a bit!
Your character confidently turns to the audience and says, “Hey, check this out.” What are they about to fumble, and how badly?
First of all, tricks for audiences are thoroughly practiced! He'd never try something new/something he's not confident in unless it was an emergency or he knew he could play the fail off as a joke bcuz any fail incurred wouldn't result in an injury so bad he can't play it off.
With that being said, with some people, small groups in a more casual setting depending on who is there, desperate to distract Zelda from something, etc, he may be more inclined to just Go For It.
If that is the case, it could be any sort of complicated trick that probably involves a lot of flips and jumps, a lot of stuff tossed about that may or may not be dangerous if not caught properly, and/or being on high objects that may or may not be stable. Picture him flinging a dagger in the air and attempting to backflip over a desk to catch it on the other side, completely unpracticed, miscalculating the timing/distance, getting a cut on his hand and jerking backwards into the desk, knocking his head on it. He might be bleeding but hey at least the topic or focus has changed from whatever made him think he needed to do something drastic in the first place!
Why are they like this? Wrong answers only.
Before giving him up to the orphanage (he was a bit older when the happened), his parents gave him a rattle with bells on it when he was but a babe, and it altered his brain chemistry forever.
For Queen
On a scale of “tiny kitten” to “middle-aged dad” how loud are their sneezes
Her sneezes sound very polite. They're not super quiet but they're not very loud either. They're a bit quieter than average and somehow sound and look dignified. (Now I'm picturing Jester sneezing and it's just a cacophony and JINGLE JANGLE JINGLE)
Which holiday would they abolish?
Whatever seems to waste the most resources with the least amount of payoff. How much is being spent to decorate Castle Town, or make certain foods, or set up special events, and how much does it actually seem to affect morale, or generate business in return? Idk what that would be exactly (idek what holidays Hyrule would have tbh 🤔) but it would definitely have to do with those qualifications.
What’s their preferred excuse for not attending an event?
Terrible headache 😔
Do they steal fries?
Of course not. She simply requests her own.
Unless it's Jester. She'd steal his fries just because the offended, betrayed, wet dog look he gives her is funny.
Aaaaand.....
Two of your WIPs are having a crossover. Which characters are getting along the best? Worst?
I have so many of these!! So I put them into a random generator and let it pick who gets a crossover with Jester >:)
Stray won!
I think Jester would drive Stray crazy. He's just too much. He doesn't take things seriously. He's stupid and annoying. (And Jester is like geeze this kid has forgotten how to have fun. Yikes!)
Crown would turn her nose up at first. He just seems too silly and ridiculous. But the moment he figured out her sense of humor she'd be changing her tune. Actually, he's a very funny and fantastic person, and you should give him a chance, Link! (Stray: YOU CALLED HIM IMMATURE AND ABSURD JUST A FEW HOURS AGO!!) Jester asks her if she knows what sorts of things amuse her Link. They're whispering and scheming and it drives Stray up a wall that he doesn't know what's going on between them and what they're talking about and that just amuses Crown all the more.
Queen would probably view Crown as a little bit childish, but she'd certainly respect her for her hard work and efforts if this was post adventure. She's young, but doing phenomenal for her age despite the heavy load, and she'd do her best to give Crown pointers where she can. Crown would mega appreciate it. I think Queen would intimidate her a bit though. She's so regal and icy and proper and she'd feel like if she makes a single mistake she'll somehow instantly obliterate her with her gaze. Unfortunately, that is just how Queen looks. Resting icy face.
Stray would be like a ruffled cat the entire time he's around Queen. Wary, trying to figure out what her deal is, what her angle is. Everything she says is probably a trap or looking down on him. Meanwhile she's internally, idly amused. He is indeed like a ruffled little cat in her eyes too. An angry, hissing little creature. It's almost cute. (She doesn't take him seriously in the slightest until she finds out all he did. Then she takes him a bit more seriously, or at least respects him more and sees that he's not just an angry, temperamental kid. He's an angry, temperamental kid that also saved Hyrule and kept his princess safe and still has it tough in some ways despite it all. Stray does not notice any difference in her behavior.)
64 for the Zeldas. If there are funny Link answers, feel free to add those. (But save this ask for later, I know you have stuff to do tomorrow 😳)
How good or bad is their sense of direction?
Boots' Zelda: I think pretty average? She's alright, she can manage, but she's not like spectacular or super speedy. She's good at keeping a level head though, so even if she got lost, she'd make a plan and go for it without panicking. Boots is kind of average too, but has a tendency to get more frustrated when he gets turned around, which just kinda makes him even worse lol
Crown: While her Link has a decent sense of direction (he might veer a little bit this way or that but ultimately head in the right direction), she's better at reading maps. And I'm not even talking about text as much as just like understanding it haha. He understands the basics - the cardinal directions and knowing which way he should head to get to whatever location, but the distance and stuff means nothing to him. He just knows Go That Direction and we'll get there eventually probably. Crown, on the other hand, struggles a bit more when it comes to the physical part of navigation, but the mapping part is easier. She does have a bit better memory for navigating dungeons though, actually. He gets a wee bit more confused when there's a lot of rooms set up in a complicated way, and looking at a map doesn't help him as much compared to Crown.
Love: It doesn't come naturally, but if she focuses, she's actually pretty good at remembering where she has and hasn't been, keeping track of landmarks, and so on. She needs to learn the actual navigation part beyond that, but once her Link teaches her, she's set. She's actually better than him at recognizing little details of similar looking rooms and remembering where they have and haven't been. But when it comes to bigger and broader navigation, long distances, he's better.
Queen: She memorizes places very quickly, but she's not accustomed to being in charge of actually getting places. She could absolutely get back to the place she came from though just because she'd remember the route taken and work it back. With a bit of learning, I think she'd be fine. Jester is surprisingly good at it. His brain is going a lot more than it might seem on the surface, and he's very spatially aware. He's kind of had to be his entire life.
Forest's Zelda: Unlike the previous one, I do have an answer for this one. (I wonder... If I should call her Castle or something... He's a child of the forest, and she's a child of the castle? Idk, I'll think on it. Opinions and suggestions always welcome for Zelda nicknames!) She doesn't have a very good sense of direction because she's never needed to exercise it... While her Link is the opposite. He might not know where he's going outside of the woods bcuz most of Hyrule is unfamiliar to him, but he can use the sun and stuff to navigate. I think she'll be a bit better by the end of their adventure since she'll have learned from Link though!
Bonus, not a Zelda, but... Sonya: I think she's pretty good! It might take her a moment to figure it out, but she could do it and it wouldn't take her ages. In a place where everything looks super similar, it might take her longer, but she'd manage. Better than her Link in an area like that, actually. He's just fine if he can see the sun, or if things look different across the board, though.
Wound up answering for (most of) their Links too just as a compare and contrast lol
And since I did that, Poncho is fantastic. Zero issue navigating whatsoever.
