#TBT -- To the "slow down". It's inevitable... with the rush and push and work of a heart-big creative project, there comes a point when you pause. (Authors -- you feel this I know, every time galley proofs are in your hands.) You exhale. Sit back in your chair, hands off the keyboard. You look around. And BREATHE. And suddenly realize, "Oh no... this thing is about to be over. This creation experience has been careening so fast to a date on the calendar that now, I want to pause. To slow it down. To live in this moment because soon, it's going to be gone." That's today. That's RIGHT NOW. As I'm writing and racing towards the finish line on Bible study content, this photo is the #TBT rainy day moment I remember. Once upon a time, when it was just me and Jesus. Huddled in a cozy coffee shop corner, with my Dad's Bible, jotting verse maps in a journal, trying to learn, desperate for a new path, and having no earthly idea what He was doing at the time. Fast forward years. To today. To the pause + slow down + heart-tug moments. I give, Lord. It's yours -- the journey... the slow down... the #TBT photos, and creative journey and every single word typed to 'THE END'. Whatever and wherever He places you today, live there. Pause there. Slow it down and take a long look at what your hands and heart are conspiring to create. Because I guarantee you'll hit the moment, and you'll know He set your course there, for years He's planned it, and that moment of intimacy of Him will be like nothing you've ever experienced before. JESUS... you amaze me. And funny, but it's full circle. Still You and me. Huddled in a cozy coffee shop corner. Jotting in a verse mapping journal. Trying to learn. May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. —Psalm 119:76 (NIV) There are few things that equal more comfort to a writer than a sunrise, a covered porch, and a mug of coffee. We relish moments like that! There's something about it that draws us into warm, familiar territory... and words will FLOW to the keyboard. I spent much of this year writing -- with coffee mug in hand -- but the experience was anything but the portrait of a blissful covered-porch-sunrise. God pulled me from every comfort zone in my writing and drew me to a place that stretched (instead of comforted) me. I went with Him, though it wasn't without a bit of tears (and if I'm honest, some kicking and screaming). It was gutting sometimes, having to confront things I wanted left alone. But what came out of it was a deeper, richer writing experience and reliance on Him. If I was in unfamiliar territory, comfort was replaced with dependence. And provision seeking. And humility that threw me to my knees. Because in this verse is one word that rocks me every time: SERVANT. If I'm a servant to Him, the comfort... wasn't about me. The writing... wasn't about me. The porch and the sunrise... not about me. Everything in the time of discomfort was to reflect not on the servant doing the work, but on the God showing the love through it all! The first part of the verse should get the glory. Remembering it's not about us... not about our wants and comforts in this life... but it's about the love He shows when we're drawn away from the comfort zone. It's unending. It's our dependence. Our provision and yes, our warm, familiar territory in the midst of the all the uncomfortable circumstances of our lives. <3 #WednesdayWisdom #comfortzone #breathelife #peace #rest #JESUSchasers

For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. —Psalm 33:4-5 (NKJV) _________________________ There are over 190 million acres of National Forest land in the United States. That's a vast area of wilderness—raw, untapped beauty spanning miles of forests, rivers, valleys, mountaintops, and uncut paths—roughly the size of Texas. There's the richness of colors. Hidden hollows. Falling away and regrowth. And if you take a trek down a road cutting through those 190 million acres, you'll have a unique experience every single time. The sun will shift through the trees. Leaves will grow, die, fall, and re-grow. Seasons will change the landscape. Time will erode, just as time will usher in the new. This is the same as what God offers us in His Word; the VAST. We can read and study and journey through a book of the Bible, only to find there's a unique experience when we come back to it the next time. Through the wildness of this life—the raw, untapped beauty spanning miles of uncut paths—it's our guidebook through the VAST expanse. This mid-week, I pray we can pause wherever we are in our life's journey. Stop whatever we're doing. Stand still in the center of the uncut. Hold up from walking the #storyroads for just a breath of time and... breathe. Look. Listen. Notice the colors. Hear the birdsong. See the big. Turn circles in place to take in the perfect vastness of Him all around us. The Word is it, friends. It's our VAST. It's our landscape if we'll let it be. It's our raw, untapped beauty spanning miles of forests, rivers, valleys, mountaintops, and uncut paths in this glorious life we've been given to walk with Jesus. Jesus’ own words: “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you... No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends...” (John 15:12-15 NKJV) Jesus spoke truth. Always. Never told a lie. Never voiced a halfsie in any word He uttered. This is because He meant it. It comes in the midst after He’d washed the disciples’ feet, identified Judas as His betrayer, predicted Peter’s denials, and taught, taught, taught, laying down some major Kingdom truths. And after that? He calls these disciples friends. He prays with them and over them, knowing the faults and failures, embracing this friendship thing at its deepest, truest level. A friend who serves first. A friend who knows the worst of us and still offers grace. A friend who forgives even before we’ve wronged them. A friend who calls us the same, who breaks bread with, learns with instead of lording over, and prays in the thick of the ministry trenches... May we be so blessed to have even one friend like this in life! But in case we didn’t know, this is the real Jesus. This is Who He’s proven Himself to be—THAT FRIEND. The one Who will never disappoint, never leave, never put a cap on showing genuine love. Today feels like a good one to read the story, re-greet the friend. It’s there—He is there— our friend, waiting in John 13-17. If it’s chilly where you are, what better November morning to throw on a scarf and step out, grab a warm cuppa, and talk to Him? Need a miracle? Look at Acts 12:10. God opened an iron gate that led to a great city—a miracle, to set one of His own free from an impossible situation. And all the while I read how God did the unthinkable for men (but always possible with Him), and broke every chain from Peter’s wrists... He is the SAME TODAY. The same God who breaks chains of bondage... The same, Who opens locked gates...The same Who leads us from the darkness of impossible situations into the color and light and absolute brilliance of a new life with Him on the other side.
