I unironically view him as Jewish coded, and I feel the only reasons why are because the cooking music kind of sounds Jewish and because Tolkien's Dwarves (which obviously are major influences on all other dwarves that came after) are themselves inspired by Jews (and in a way that's a lot more respectful than you'd think while still not fetishizing them)

very interested in the topic of “jew coded,” not as it applies to villains, but rather pop culture in general. like there are so many jews in writing rooms, and yiddish has really trickled into a lot of goyische america’s vocabulary (from klutz to the p common phrase “is it kosher?” to refer to some general thing being ok/right/acceptable)

in particular i’m thinking of Hawkeye Pierce from M*A*S*H and that post on the Addams Family or even the more quiet/cultural shit on the west wing (when toby and josh make sam go outside and spit to avoid the evil eye kinahora)

it’s like the opposite of tokenizing or just paying lip service... it’s cultural stuff bubbling up naturally

idk it’s just interesting, especially in context with my interests in the evolving culture of american jews... yinglish etc.
