TOP 3 DIY SHORTS OF THE SUMMER
Upcycle old neglected jeans into the hottest pair of shorts to beat the summer weather! Get the look you’ve been wanting for cheap with these DIYs ♥ ♥
(if buying from the link from Michaels recommended to get two)
Thread - recommended to get denim colored/styled thread.
Cut the jeans into shorts - Personally, I usually fold them in half and cut about one-two inches from the crotch center. Cut however short or long as you like though!!
Line the lace trim along the edges of the shorts - I lined mine over the jeans to hide my uneven cutting.
Pin the lace down once you are pleased with where it’s at.
Sew the lace to the bottom of the shorts. Take the pins out as you sew so they’re not in your way - Personally, I handsew everything because using a sewing machine involves rocket science.
Wear the shorts with a cute top and await the compliments!!
For most fun - recommended to get colored bottoms!! :)
Relatively large bucket/bin
I used a cleaned waste bin
Newspaper - only if you mind bleach on your floors
Clip - if your bucket is too tall to hang the shorts over the edge, and you need something to hold up the shorts
Cut the jeans into shorts - Personally, I usually fold them in half and cut about one-two inches from the crotch center. Cut however short or long as you like though!!
Fill the bucket up with water about halfway - or a third of the way if it’s small
Pour in about half a cup of bleach- tbh, I filled the cap of my bleach bottle three or four times to pour it in, which I’m guessing is about half a cup. The more bleach, the stronger the whitening processes.
Place newspaper around the bucket and extra on the side for when the shorts have to be laid out to dry
Place in about two-thirds of your shorts into the bleach bucket. Let it soak for one to two hours. (The longer it’s in, the more color it’ll lose)
Take out the top half so only a third of your shorts are in the bucket. Let it soak in for another hour or two.
Take out your shorts completely, and lay them down on the newspaper you set aside.
Let the shorts dry - you can also use an old toothbrush dipped in the bleach water to scrub over the unevenly bleached parts
Wear your sweet new shorts out and make all your friends envious!
Note: it’s okay if you see the water rising to the top of the shorts. Only the parts in the bleach filled water will be affected.
STUDDED DISTRESSED SHORTS
Cut the jeans into shorts - Personally, I usually fold them in half and cut about one-two inches from the crotch center. Cut however short or long as you like though!!
Cut a line into your shorts where you’d like the distressing to be. Don’t be afraid to make large cuts!
Use your pin or tweasers to pull the horizontal threads in the shorts’s threading. (denim is made of horizontal and diagonal threads - the horizontal ones are usually white)
Keep pulling out the horizontal threads until you’re satisfied with how big the distressing has become vertically. Cut the frayed edges if they get too long. Pull out the threads from both sides of the hole you made so there’s frayed edges on both sides of the hole
Repeat steps 2-4 for multiple distressed areas. You can make more unique distressing besides holes by scrubbing some areas with sandpaper or a pumice stone!
Take the studs and place them where you desire - Personally, I like lining them on the pocket or around the edge of the pocket!
Stab the studs through the shorts material and push down the little tabs on the back to keep them in place.
Now, go rock your new hot shorts and show off your awesome summer look!
