despite his obvious discomfort ( shifting around in his chair, tensing the muscles around the wound, audibly growling every now and then ) no one in the office had offered to monitor the recovery process. once he was all checked out from the ER– as quickly as possible– it’s assumed that gavin can take care of himself.
and they’re damn right. it’s probably THAT sort of attitude that keeps any helpful offers, even from the friendlier types, from being thrown his way. he tells himself again that he doesn’t really NEED an inspection of the stitches very close to a very vital kidney; his latest on-the-job souvenir. the itching is normal, anyway, and it’s not like it hurts much worse than it did yesterday. a few shots will knock off the edge, once he’s done with the shift.
“if i wanted help, i’d ask for it.” he doesn’t even bother looking up from his report to dismiss her, a pointed SNIFF and scrunching of that scarred nose for emphasis. and the muscles along his right side twitch again.
