Two (2!!) of my managers at work have this speaking habit during meetings where they hesitate, voice crack, inflect like they're trying not to cry, and take forever to get to the point no matter what they're communicating.

So like, every meeting it sounds like they're about to announce a a death or mass layoffs but instead they're just reminding everyone to track our time.

Tbh I, for one, have spent my entire life baffled by the fact that people will generalize all 'men' or 'woman' when either word includes LITERAL BILLIONS of completely different people!

Hearing some old guy say "Well you know, women, am I right?" to mock someone for 'talking too much' is stupid.

And hearing women say "Well he's a guy, so-" to excuse a crass comment is ALSO completely wrong.

To generalize men or women is to generalizing literal BILLIONS of people. You are grouping together roughly HALF OF ALL HUMAN BEINGS into one insult that doesn't hold ANY water and it's incredibly frustrating.

Maybe certain demographics do happen to have certain attributes more or less in comparison to other groups.

But to generalize HALF OF ALL PEOPLE???

You think you can justify passive aggressively insulting someone or to excuse cruel behavior by saying that, "Well, HALF OF ALL PEOPLE are like that so it's fine."

Like my god no!!! NO!!!

So someone talks a lot! Maybe they're excited! Maybe they trust you enough to talk openly and honestly! Or maybe that's just their personality!

And maybe that guy IS strong! Maybe he liked going to the gym and is proud of his physique! Maybe he likes to take pride in himself!

But to excuse a certain woman talking bad about her friends behind their backs by saying 'all woman are like that', or to excuse a guy for making a very inappropriate comment to you in a place of work because "he's a guy"- that's just NOT RIGHT.

Use your head and judge people's actions as their own! Look at the individual and decide if this person is actually hurting someone, or if they're just living their life and that's their personality!

And if something really bothers you, then say something about it!

Just THINK CRITICALLY before trying to generalize away the way someone acts!
