Murphy's Law of Love AU where Xiao Tong doesn't catch Jie Jia Wei before he gets on the plane
OOOOH this is interesting (and kinda sad because technically that means no elevator kiss but that’s cool)
Xiao-tong is unable to reach Ji Jia-wei before he gets on the plane, and at first blames it once again on her curse. As she mopes in the airport, she realizes that Zi-yan was right–her stubbornness and indecisiveness are what caused her to lose the love of her life, not simply bad luck. She decides to fight for love and win his heart–i.e, it’s HIS turn to be romanced!
After landing in Hong Kong, Jia-wei hears the plethora of messages Xiao-tong has left on his answering machine. Panicked, he attempts to call her, but the phone number has apparently been disconnected. Dejected, he decides that their separation is for the best, and that he should try and move on from her like he did with Zhi-yu. He puts the remnants of their relationship into a box in his closet, except for two items: the bracelet, which he keeps in his jacket pocket, and the “I Say Yes!” note, which remains on his bedside table (although he has turned it face down).
Ji Jia-wei settles well into his new job/apartment. One day, upon returning to his home, he notices a bouquet of flowers outside the door. The card simply says “To Ji Jia-Wei” with no indication of who they are from. As the weeks go on, he begins to notice more and more surprises: food being delivered to the office when he’s working late, coffee waiting on his desk when he arrives in the morning, reminders to take care of himself and not to work too hard taped to the windshield of his car, etc. On the anniversary of the day his mother left/his birthday, he finds that someone has left a wrapped ice cream bar tied to a balloon outside his door. He would find it creepy if it wasn’t so wholesome. He mentions it to his father over drinks one night, and his dad suggests that one of the secretaries in the office has a crush on him. Jia-wei admits to his dad that the little notes & gifts do make him feel special, but that he isn’t ready for a new relationship just yet.
The time has finally come for Polo to join Jia-wei in Hong Kong. The day he is set to arrive, Shao-qiang texts Jia-wei that he is unable to come to HK to deliver Polo in person, but he sent a liaison in his place. Jia-wei’s heart begins to beat quickly–could it be? Of course it couldn’t–but could it??? He is somewhat disappointed when the liaison turns out to be An-ting, but he hides it as best he can. An-ting asks him if he’s read Xiao-tong’s blog since they broke up. She shows him, and he sees that Xiao-tong has written about all of her mistakes in their relationship & how much she regrets how she treated him. An-ting gently tells him that Xiao-tong hasn’t given up, but Jia-wei is stubborn: he says that a relationship is impossible now that he is in HK. An-ting asks if he still loves Xiao-tong, and he admits he does. But he also says that he loved Xiao-tong more than she cared about him, and that she will get over him in time just like she did with Kevin. An-ting is unconvinced, but she does not argue. Later that night, Jia-wei confides in Polo about his confusion over Xiao-tong.
An-ting says she has some friends to visit, and suggests Jia-wei take Polo on a walk without her. While at the park, Polo gets free and runs off. Jia-wei gives chase, only to follow Polo to a clearing in the park covered in rose petals and lined with lit candles. Standing in the middle is Xiao-tong. (An-ting of course helped pull off this whole thing.) Xiao-tong confesses that she followed Jia-wei to HK weeks ago, and has been the secret admirer leaving him notes/gifts. She wanted to approach him the very first day, but he looked so happy in his new situation, she was worried if she made herself known, it would ruin his newfound happiness. Still, she wanted to make him feel special, so she continued to leave him surprises anonymously. She apologizes to Jia-wei for her mistakes and tells him that she loves him and wants to pursue a healthier, more balanced relationship with better communication…but if he doesn’t want that, she will leave him alone and never bother him again. Touched, Jia-wei hands her the “I Say Yes” card (which he felt the urge to carry around after his talk with Polo) before going in for kiss. They then live happily ever after. :)
