Awful Stranger Things thought of the day: Will could’ve potentially been found faster if Sara was alive. Hopper would’ve taken threats to children in the area much more seriously if it could’ve impacted his own child.

Jim Hopper, Sally Hardesty, and perhaps also Sidney Prescott and Nancy Thompson weren’t selected by the Entity for a very simple reason.

The Voices of Stranger Things

Aside from horror movies, one of my other great interests in life is linguistics. The study of accents, dialects, and just how much that can tell you about a person has always been extremely fascinating to me.

So naturally, as I’m re-watching Stranger Things, linguistics came to mind.

Holy shit. There’s a lot to unpack here.

There are so many little things about the performances in Stranger Things the just make the linguist in me giddy, from the subtle hints about his past hidden in Hopper’s voice to the highlighting of the socioeconomic differences in characters that come with their voices.

Even things like the purposeful variance in the oral posture (the physical way you move your mouth when talking) in some of the actors is absolutely astounding.

I legitimately don’t know if anyone would care about this. I’m just kind of posting this to see if anyone would like me to dig into this deeper. I know it’s really niche, but if this would interest you please let me know.
