Alice felt her throat tighten and tears blur in her eyes before she could even fully understand what she was feeling. When it came to Jim a lot of feelings tended to get a little out of control. He made her feel a little out of control because her feelings for him had felt so intense at the time that she was ready to thrown her own senses and sensibilities out into the air for him. She was still also rather hurt by the last time they truly talked. He confused her on best days and she wondered why he would say something like that to her. She was honestly so baffled that she was crying. She longed to understand Jim, she really did. He was such a sweet soul who was always putting others before his own and she just...felt so selfish for loving the fact that he was giving some of himself to her. Even if it hurt like hell. A beautiful contradiction that she was a fool for time and time again.
She wiped her eyes and looked at him like he was the most achingly beautiful thing she has ever seen. How she wished they were able to face the obstacles they had together instead of so far apart. “I...” she didn’t really know what to say to that. She could be honest, which could lead to another argument, or she could lie and spare them both. Charlie was often telling her that a little lie here and there wasn’t trouble as long as they could run faster than it. She had no idea what that meant, but she decided it was probably not the best since she was not a fast runner. “If that be the case....why do you avoid me so much?” She wanted answers more than she wanted more questions.
