Flashy jinbaori (battle surcoat) showcased at the Taigan Historical museum, entirely covered by peacock feathers caught under netting, with a luscious red lining.

Jinbaori were decorative coats worn by high ranked warlords, especially during the Sengoku period. Like the rest of the lords’ battle regalia, they were luscious and expensive, showing their owner power and status.

The Armour surcoat I made for this summer’s Epic Empires quickly became one of my favourite pieces of Costume.

I have not managed to take good pictures of the finished surcoat, so here are some WIP photographs. The surcoat still lacks clasps here, and the sides are not yet closed. But all the embroidery, the leather and the lining are already finished.

I am often commenting on how men kimono outfits are boring, but here we are talking :D Great model, great shot, matching brown tones + textures = AAA style!

I especially like the earthy/velvety undervest, which reminds me of an old school kawabaori (sturdy hunting vest made from hide, also used by firemen during Edo), or a jinbaori (battle surcoat) like this one made from feathers (back):

That harinezumi (hedgehog) kimono by Mimizukuya has been paired with a see-thought sodenashi* (sleeveless haori) and a custom hedgehog haori himo (hoeri ties).

(*short of sodenashibaori. They are sometimes also called jinbaori but this is technically incorrect as jinbaori are special type of ancient battle surcoats)

Antique jinbaori (batlle surcoat), part of the Kimonoten2020 exibit. This coat bears on its back the agehacho (swallowtail butterfly) crest of Oda Nobunaga. Its whole torso part is covered in feathers.
